How Business Can Ship Urgently and Save Money

February 27, 2018

As a lifestyle and parenting blogger, I sometimes need to send or receive parcels quickly. But in my experience, I have found that this can cost quite a lot of money. As a mum with two young children, it is important to me to save money where I can.

To help you, whether you run your own blog or business, or even if you have simply forgotten to ship that birthday present until the last minute, I thought I would share with you some tips and tricks I have learnt.

Choose the Right Courier

Every courier and parcel delivery service offers something different. This means that to find the right one for the job, you need to shop around and do your research. Although this can take time, it will mean that your parcel arrives on time and help you find the best service for the best price.

For example, if you’re sending important documents or need to meet an urgent deadline, there are shipping companies that offer one-hour collection and same-day delivery.

Use Light Packaging

Many shipping companies use weight to determine how much a parcel will cost. If it is above a certain weight bracket, it will push the cost up, so it is important to keep your package as light as possible while still protecting the contents. Choose lightweight packaging, such as polystyrene packing peanuts, which will prevent movement and keep the items safe without greatly impacting the overall weight.

Keep Parcels Small

In addition to weight, most couriers also use size when calculating price. This makes sense because the bigger the parcel, the more space it takes up in the delivery vehicle. If you need to post a large item, then it may be hard to reduce the size. But where it is possible, keep the packaging as small as you can, without compromising how well the contents are protected.

Check After Wrapping

Lastly, it can be easy to make a little but very costly mistake: checking the weight and size of an item before wrapping. While this may not add much to the overall heaviness or dimensions of a shipment, any differences could result in charges when it arrives at its destination. When a shipment needs to be sent urgently, this is the last thing you want. Therefore, always double check after wrapping.

Hopefully these tips will help you when needing to ship parcels urgently. Also use tracking to keep an eye on its progress and make sure it arrives on time.
