How I Write A Blog Post

March 29, 2017

Every day, hundreds of thousands of blog posts are written and published all over the world and I have always fascinated and been interested to know how people write blogs posts and where they get the inspiration from. Whether it’s a personal experience and just something they heard or saw, and that inspired them to write a post. There are I’m sure, a million and one reasons why people write posts.

So for all of this I thought I would write down how I write a blog post. It may surprise you or you just may think well, that’s no surprise. Who knows!

Writing a blog post for me is interesting because the inspiration can literally come from anywhere. I can hear a sentence, see a situation or something happen to me or my children that I feel I want write down that I’m proud of to keep forever or it could be that they have had a hard time in life and have been unfairly treated that I feel I want to highlight in a blog post.

I have written many times on my own personal experiences in my own life. The reason that I write about these is that it is a form of therapy for me. My life has been interesting and if I’m honest it’s actually been tough. Writing down what has happened in my life is my way of coming to terms with a lot of my past.

I write also about issues that I feel passionate about such as gender stereotyping. This is something that infuriates me beyond belief and I write about it to hopefully raise awareness and make it a better world for my children, especially my five year old twin girls.

Every so often I write about the blogging world and if I’m honest it’s usually something that has irritated me because on a general rule the blogging world is fantastic and incredibly supportive, but every now and again things are said or done that I find very annoying.

Now back to the title of this post. How do I write a post? Once I have an idea I generally try to write it instantly while the thought of the post is going though my head and I’m not distracted.

Once it’s written I make very little changes to it other than editing and grammar. I might alter the odd sentence slightly, but once written it generally stays that way. The reason why is simple. I have written usually from the heart in certain posts so I see no reason to change it because it’s how I felt at the time and I believe that over editing the post can take the passion and honesty away from it.

When I’m writing a new blog post I firmly believe that you must be honest and truthful and to not fabricate a story to possibly make it a better read, mainly because those sorts of posts I believe people see through them straight away and stop reading. I know I do.

I have know idea and I genuinely mean this, why people read my posts. Possibly because I have no confidence in my writing. My wife will tell you that she is sick of me saying is that post ok, what do you think of it? I think I drive her mad!

When I have written a new post I’m not going to lie obviously I would like people to read it, engage with it, possibly enjoy it and maybe comment that they like it, but I certainly have never expected that and never will.

My blog will never win an award, but then I’m not in it to do that although I think my blog is not intellectual enough to win awards, and my posts I know are occasionally not maybe everyone’s cup of tea. But I like to think it’s real and documents my life in a way that possibly people can relate too. Which if they do then for me that’s award in itself.

I blog just about everyday things which takes an incredible amount of discipline and time, but I have never been short of ideas or inspiration. If I have an idea I always write down the title instantly to remind myself later what it was about and I believe that is vitally important. I love writing and I wish I had started earlier in my life. So if truth be known I’m making up for lost time.

How do you write your blog posts? What’s your inspiration? I would love to know.

My process is just like yours. Something I see or hear sparks and I write it down. When I get the time I sit and write about anything. Like you very little editing other than spelling, grammer and maybe a few sentences that don’t sound right. I keep it how I wrote in the moment and you are right, it keeps the emotion there.
For me it may not be perfect to anyone who reads but when my kids are older and look back and say yep thats dad. That is whats important to me, something pure dad left for my kids.

I started blogging as a way to share the knowledge I gained from working as a registered child minder for many years, I was forced to give up after suffering a massive stroke, my niece, a first time mummy, asked for some bedtime tips and this made me realise that I could help others, I blog as a hobby and really enjoy it

I think it sounds like you blog from a really honest place, and I know I for one value that in a blogger…there’s only so many sponsored posts or reviews you can read! I’d much rather read about someone’s life and thoughts, so keep doing what you’re doing!

This is why you are a great blogger! Because you tell it like it is! My process is much the same, I have an idea and if I can’t get on it straight away I will put it into notes on my phone along with some key phrases that came with the initial idea. Then when I have time later I will type it up.
I like to think that I write how I speak. I’ve been told my writing style is great, which obviously I take as a huge compliment. I think it’s so important to be yourself too – never try and copy anyone else.
    Great post – as always!! 🙂 #bestandworst

I find your posts thought provoking and interesting. As Oscar Wilde apparently said ‘be yourself, everyone else is taken’. #bestandworst
