To start with, you can’t expect your significant other to be happy with a picnic served out of a plastic shopping bag and presented on damp grass. Get a picnic basket for two so that you can transport your food, plates, and cutlery. Choose something sturdy and, if need be, that can insulate your food and keep it fresh. There’s nothing romantic about food poisoning from spoiled food.
As well as the basket, you should also provide a waterproof picnic blanket for you both to sit on. You can bring chairs or cushions to make things more comfortable, but at least a picnic blanket will make things far more pleasant than lying on the cold hard ground.

Another thing to consider is the weather. Sadly, your anniversary might not be blessed by glorious sunshine. In this case, it may be an idea to have a picnic at a different time or be more imaginative with the location. Nobody says that you can’t have a picnic at home.
