There’s no doubt about it, buying a new car, or a used car for that matter can be stressful because a lot of money is usually at stake. Have a car fund

Perhaps the biggest stress of buying a new car is where the money is going to come from. If you’re able to, then the best way to alleviate some of this stress is to keep a car fund in which you deposit money regularly to help you with any repairs or an eventual new car purchase. If it’s too late to develop a car fund now, then another way to help alleviate this stress is by doing some research into car loans, personal contract plans and hire plans, which are all ways of financing a car without a large upfront payment.

Give yourself plenty of time

Another key stressor of the car purchase process is time, most noticeable a lack of it. Where you can, try to give yourself plenty of time to research new vehicles so that you can find one that suits your needs and your budget. Don’t rush into anything and take your time to test drive and visit the dealership and remember, if the car you wanted becomes sold, then it wasn’t meant to be.

Part exchange

Another way to take some of the financial stress out of buying a new car, as well as the stress of selling your old one, is to try and get a part-exchange deal. If you part-exchange your car, then the dealership will offer you a sum of money for it, taking this off the payment of your new vehicle, and will then sell it on for their own profit. You may not get as much for your car during a part exchange as you would selling it directly yourself, but then again you don’t have to deal with people coming to test drive it and it has been taken entirely off your hands.

Remember that the dealership is here to help

Care salespeople have a bit of a reputation for being a little pushy but remember, they’re here to help you and you should use them to make sure that you get a good vehicle at a good price. Don’t be afraid to visit multiple dealerships and to test drive as many cars as you need until you find the right one. If you do feel as though you are being pressured into a decision then take a deep breath, remember that the salesperson is only being pushy as their own job requires it, and if you need to, go away to have a think about it and come back later.
