I Really Hope We Never Lose The Magic Of Christmas
Our twin girls are now in the middle of celebrating their seventh Christmas and it’s been an interesting journey for us to watch over those years.

This year has been easily the most fascinating Christmas for me to watch when it comes to the girls, and that’s mainly because I know that the magic of Christmas is eventually coming to an end and the truth of Father Christmas being nothing but a myth is something they will learn. If I’m entirely honest that will be a sad day because the magic of Christmas is watching their innocence and quite simply just believing in the magic.

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year. People are generally happy, children are excited and yes there is a feel good factor in the air.
This year has seen a number of changes for the girls. One of the biggest changes was back in September when they moved up to junior school. This meant that they would be mixing with children a lot older and one of my biggest fears is that they would over hear older children talking about Father Christmas and possibly hear that he is only a myth and not real. I can actually say that thankfully this has not happened and last Saturday was proof that the girls still believe in the magic of Father Christmas.
Last Saturday we went on our annual visit to see Father Christmas at his grotto. We always go to the same one which is about a ten minute drive from where we live at a local garden centre called Pughs. They always have a fantastic grotto which is set out in a very traditional way, but is also educational, interactive and most importantly fun for the children. It starts with writing a letter to Santa which the girls did very quickly and posted them off to Lapland.

This year it was a journey through different countries where girls learnt how people in different parts of the world celebrated Christmas with a final door opening up to Father Christmas’s room where they got to sit next to him and tell him what they would like for Christmas. For me this is what dreams are made of. Pure and total magic, yes! It’s the magic of Christmas seen through the innocence of a children’s eyes.

The other Christmas event the girls were involved with was their school Christmas concert and this took place at the church across the road from their school. I will say at this point I am not religious one little bit, but there was something very special and magical about the whole of the junior school singing Christmas carols and re-telling the Christmas story in a simple way without any of the influences of modern society. One thing I found particularly pleasing to watch was all the children were involved because they sang about nine Christmas carols so they weren’t sat there bored while the year six pupils ran the show.
You hear so much nowadays about how kids should be in the real world and if parents want to do that it’s absolutely ok, but for me life can be tough at times and our children will grow up and have to face the ups and downs of life so while they are young let’s keep the magic of Christmas alive for as long as we can. It’s what makes a childhood happy – believing in something that makes you feel good all over inside and out.
Christmas morning is one of those moments in not just your children’s lives when they wake up and see that Father Christmas stopped by your home and left some presents for them, but also for me as their little faces light up and a big smile appears on my face and gives me goosebumps. I just hope it goes on forever.
I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Christmas is never quite the same once your children grow out of believing in Santa, but then grandchildren come along and the magic return, merry Christmas, Nig#thatfridaylinky@_karendennis

I love it when your tender dad heart comes through here in the stories you share.

It’s that saying that we don’t know what we have until it’s too late. As humans, nomatter how practical/realistic we are, we often get so caught up in life we forget to truly treasure the little things that won’t last forever. I too fear that it won’t be much longer my girls won’t believe anymore, I suppose that’s what made me get sucked into being an elf puppeteer. Anything to keep their childhood innocence a bit longer. #ThatFridayLinky
