The world has certainly changed with the arrival of technology. It impacts every part of our lives, but that certainly was not the case when I was a teenager.

When I was teenager I would attend many pop and rock concerts. In order to obtain a ticket, it was not even vaguely similar to the way we do it today. I used to have to queue up outside the venue, usually the night before tickets went on sale. There’d be hundreds of people waiting for the box office to open just to buy a ticket to see my favourite band of the moment. Although I’m sure if I told my children that’s how I got a ticket they would probably look at me in disbelief. Something along the lines of, really dad, that’s madness!

The interesting thing was that it was actually fun, saying that in the middle of winter it was no fun cuddled up in a sleeping back totally unable to get warm! Looking back it actually makes me laugh, watching two people in a box office being bombarded by teenagers wanting tickets to a pop concert.

Thankfully the world has moved along quite a bit since those days. Of course kids would just laugh and say well if I want a ticket I go on my laptop or smart phone. Of course today they are exactly right.

Over the last few years I have been involved in organising charity events and I have always done all the paperwork on a manual system which is time consuming and quite often something can be forgotten and it’s always difficult to keep on top of all the paperwork.

The world and advancement of technology has definitely made our lives easier. Whether we are selling tickets or buying tickets to an event, it’s all at our fingertips nowadays. It also gives those organising an event an up to the minute update anytime you want it. The organising and the tiresome leg work has been taken away from us, thank goodness!

The world that I grew up in as a teenager is not ever remotely similar to the one my children are now growing up in, but I think that’s a good thing as it makes organising and booking events so much easier. Which consequently gives us more leisure time to enjoy ourselves.

Technology is here to stay and thank goodness for that is that what I say!
