Is Blogging At Saturation Level (How Do I Get Noticed?)

June 3, 2017

I started blogging two and a half years ago. When I started there were dad bloggers around writing predominantly about parenting and other issues to a lesser degree.

Would I start a blog now? I would probably have to say no. I started at a time where there was a lot of blogs about, but dad bloggers were definitely under represented so I feel it gave me a better opportunity to be noticed and grow my blog. Since I started blogging, dad bloggers have grown into a dominant force. With a lot more klout in the blogging world, it is no longer a mum blogging dominant world. It’s small steps, but we are definitely on the increase.

My fear for blogging is that nowadays whatever you are blogging about, the chances of being noticed is incredibly difficult. This of course explains why so many bloggers give up after just a few days or weeks. I imagine that for every 10 blogs that start up everyday treble or more stop.

The blogging world is dangerously close to saturation. If there is a subject out there somebody is probably blogging about it. So what makes those very small amount of blogs that get noticed successful?

Something I have always tried to make an effort to do is help new bloggers starting on their journey. That could either be by sharing or retweeting a comment on a post because everybody needs a helping hand now and again, and really what is wrong with a bit of blog love?

So you have started a blog and you want to get noticed. I don’t really have any secret formula of tips and advice, but there are a number things I believe if you want your blog read that you should always do.

1. Creating new content. This sounds easy. If only! Because you have to think about a number things when writing a post. It has to be interesting and engaging. Are you able to grab the reader and hold on to them until the end of post? I have read many thousands of posts, some grab you with the title and you are let down with the content, whereas others, the title is not so good, but very often you skip reading the post and that could be a shame as it could have been a very good post. I guess you should never judge a book by its cover.

2.  When there are many hundred of thousands of blogs out there, and you have written something, of course you are proud. You would like everybody to read it, but how do you tell the world? For some people social media is a nessecary evil, but it is the only way I know of getting your work read. The one bit of advice I would offer though is don’t be shy. Tweet and share often to get yourself visible.

3. Blogging is like anything else. It’s also a buisness and there will be people making a lot of money and be at the top of the tree.

As a blogger you have to decide in a very saturated market what it is you want. I started blogging as a hobby and in truth it’s still very much that. Yes I make money, but not anywhere near enough to give up my day job, but for all of that I’m happy where I sit in the blogging world/buisness.

In my opinion there are different levels of blogging…

1. Those that make a full-time living from their blog

2. Those that make some money, but keep predominantly organic posts on their blog whether that’s about family, lifestyle etc.

3. Then there are those that blog purely as a hobby. These are the people I admire most. They want to write for the love of writing and that is to be commended.

My only advice to somebody who is starting out as a blogger is nothing happens overnight. It’s very hard work, but keep at it and success may well be around the corner. The biggest piece of advice I can give though is to love what you are doing. Enjoy writing. Find your voice and your particular niche that you enjoy writing about. It will show in your writing.

This is a very saturated buisness but for all of that I believe there is room for everyone.

Great post Nigel, good advice. There’s room for everyone for sure.

No-one should blog if they don’t like doing it!

If we are passionate about what we write about that will come through. We will attract our ideal audience.
