Is Vaping A Good Replacement For Smoking?
Unless you’ve had your head thoroughly buried under the ground for the past decade, the rise of vaping has been hard to miss. There’s a very good chance that your local high street has at least one dedicated vape shop, and it probably has a lot more. People pick it up for a lot of reasons but, if you’re a smoker, then there’s a good chance that people have recommended it to you as a means of quitting. But how effective is it, really?
Is it effective?
The statistics on this one are pretty clear. People who vape are twice as likely to successfully quit smoking when they attempt to as those who use no aids. Vaping has been on the rise, in particular, as a quit-smoking aid for a few reasons. Other smoking cessation aids, such as patches and gum, carry similar probabilities in terms of helping you quit, but more and more people gravitate towards vapes not only as a means of nicotine replacement but because the physical action and the ritual of smoking, of putting something to your mouth and inhaling, can be a powerful urge, as well. It’s always worth exploring your options to find the aid that helps you the best.
Is it safe?
Vaping is still a fairly new phenomenon within the medical community, and the impacts of it, in the long-term especially, are still being researched. So, are elf bars bad for you? What about other kinds of vape equipment? There is, at the moment, no evidence to suggest that these devices cause any type of long-term harm when it comes to issues like cancer and bronchiolitis. There is a certain chance of side effects, though these are rare. The strong side effects also tend to be in those vapes that contain nicotine, especially higher levels of nicotine. It’s worth doing your research on side effects and, if you feel them while vaping, to start taking breaks from it, or lowering your nicotine dose to manage them.
Is it wise?
Beyond the fact that vaping can, indeed, help you quit smoking and is significantly better for you than smoking, there are other factors to consider. For instance, if you have children, then you may want to make sure that, as a parent, you’re aware of the impact of vaping on kids. Ensuring that they don’t pick up the habit because you did might mean having to be more careful about where and when you vape. Similarly, you should be mindful of waste as a response to vaping, and try to stick to methods that offer refillable and rechargeable vape pens, instead of disposables, if waste is a significant issue to you. Vaping, like everything else, should be done responsibly, is the takeaway.
Any means of nicotine replacement therapy is going to make you significantly more likely to successfully quit smoking, and that includes vaping. The method has its pros and cons like any other, but it is worth considering, as we have hopefully covered here.
