It’s Time For A Major Facelift For Our Bedroom

We have been living in our current home for about three years now, and when we moved in nothing really needed doing as far as decorating was concerned. It was basically reasonably well decorated, so it was a simple case of move in and unpack.

Unfortunately, about a year ago we had a water leak in the roof above our bedroom. The cost to repair the roof was very expensive. As such the damage done to the interior of our bedroom had to be put on hold until we could afford it. Thankfully I managed to patch it up so it was acceptable and was ok to live with until we had the money to do a major facelift of our bedroom.

We are now in a position financially that we can start planning how we want our bedroom to look. So here are the changes we want to make to stamp our personality on our bedroom.

Before we start creating our dream bedroom, we gutted the room and had all the walls re-plastered so that when we paint the walls, it will give the perfect finish. This also involved removing all the skirting boards. We now have a blank canvas to create a beautiful bedroom. This is what we hope to achieve with a totally new look.

1. Ceilings And Walls

I wasn’t planning on anything special for the ceiling. I’m going to paint it in two coats of white emulsion which will reflect the light. The walls, of which there are three, will be in a neutral colour to give the feeling of relaxation, and also because I intend to add colour using bi-fold blinds and curtains. although I could be tempted to have a feature wall.

2. Bedroom furniture

We tend to have in-built wardrobes which will incorporate a dressing table for my wife. Currently, we have free standing wardrobes and there seems to be enough room for all our clothes, so having built in wardrobes will hopefully solve that problem.

3. Skirting Boards

A lot of people forget about skirting boards, but it’s such an important part of any room. It should be a feature and not look like just a lump of wood nailed to the wall. Thankfully today there are a number of fantastic suppliers on the internet. While I was browsing I came across Skirting World. They have an amazing selection of skirting boards in all different designs. My personal choice is going to be 145mm x 18mm 330 HDF skirting board. They’re made of MDF which saves a lot time because they come pre-primed in white, making the job of painting them in white gloss very easy, which is what I intend to do.

4. Flooring

Carpets can complete the job perfectly. We will be looking at a deep pile carpet so it’s nice underfoot, and this will be in a neutral colour to compliment everything else we have done.

That’s what I’m planning on doing in our bedroom, over the next few months to give it a major face-lift.
