It’s Time To Get The Garden Ready For Summer

February 19, 2021

Finally we have passed the worst parts of the winter months and slowly but surely the temperatures will start to get a bit higher and we can now start thinking about leaving the confines of our home and get out in the garden.

As Spring approaches it’s time to start the preparation of our garden to enjoy the summer months out in the garden. Here are a few things you can start doing now that will help in having your garden fully prepared for those hot summer months.

1. Shrubs & Borders

Over the winter months the borders and shrubs you have planted in them will have been left to their own devices. This is a particularly good time as the soil is wet and it’s much easier to turn over the soil and remove all the weeds and trim your shrubs so they are tidy and it will save you a lot of time come springtime.

2. Patio Area

The patio area of any garden is probably the most used area and for months it has been totally unused. So it’s important to start getting it in tip top condition for those family barbecues.

First thing I will be doing is pressure washing the patio to remove all the grime from the winter months. I will also be checking out all of patio pots and replanting the bulbs so they are full bloom during the spring and summer.

This year I have decided that I think it’s about time we purchased some new garden furniture and I was browsing the internet and came across garden furniture by Lazy Susan. They have a fantastic range of furniture and patio tables and chairs in all sorts of designs. I’m sure I’d find something that’s perfect for our garden. It is also worth mentioning that to keep your patio table in perfect condition, then a patio table cover is a very important purchase.

Something that we thought would be very cool was a hammock and of course to have a hammock you will need a hammock stand so you can just have a lazy day in the summer sunshine.

3. Greenhouse

This is also the time to start your seedlings in the greenhouse. If you like to grow tomatoes or other vegetables then they will grow nicely inside the greenhouse protected from the cold weather until the weather is warmer and you can plant them out in the garden.

4. Vegetable patch

If like me you enjoy eating freshly grown vegetables then it’s important to start preparing your vegetable patch now. A great way to do this is to have a compost heap. This will help your vegetables grow when you are ready to plant outdoors as all the goodness of a compost heap will give you tasty vegetables throughout the summer.

5. Lighting

Finally something else I plan to do this year is to sort out the lighting in our garden for those warm summer nights so that after a barbecue you can sit and enjoy a drink as the sun goes down. I will be looking at adding some spotlights and possibly fairy lights to add a little magic to our garden.

What plans do you have for your garden as spring approaches? I would love to hear in the comments below.
