Lockdown Hobbies You Should Try

January 5, 2021

COVID changed 2020 dramatically, and 2021 is starting out much the same way for much of the globe. Staying at home, wearing masks and being socially distanced from others are not what we wished for when the ball dropped at New Year. However, this is what we are faced with and like any difficult situation in life, we have the choice whether we sink or swim with it. Instead of seeing lockdown as a negative thing, use it positively.

This could be a time for rediscovery and change. You could explore new things to do and truly change the way that you live. Increased time indoors doesn’t have to be a bad thing, not when there are a range of things that you could be doing with yourself. If you run a home business, you could be hiring a wood cutting laser to put the finishing touches to a new sign for your home business. You could choose to start a new hobby surrounding carpentry using the garage as your base. It could turn into a business. A lockdown doesn’t stop you from being productive, at least, you don’t have to let it! Let’s take a look at some of he hobbies you could be enjoying in lockdown right now:

  • Gardening. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have an outside space for this one: you can garden without a garden. Indoor herb gardens are exceptionally popular right now, and as gardening is such a therapeutic pastime, it’s brilliant for during lockdowns. You could transform the windowsills in your house and grow your own herbs and spices right there!
  • Basement Brewery. If you have the space, a basement brewery could be life changing. You may not be able to sit in pubs and drink with your friends, but you could create your own personal brew to share when lockdowns are lifted. You can keep your mind active in creating your own beer, and you can relax and warm your stomach at the same time. Beer Snobs shares that it’s not as difficult to buy and use the equipment as you think it is, and it’s widely available online.
  • Language Learning. Learning a new language takes time but we’re in lockdown and that means you have enough time to get it done – well, at least the basics. You can connect to tutors online and start learning a language from the country of your choice. It’s going to open up some doors or you, so choose a language that is more universal, such as Spanish or Chinese.
  • Learn To Upholster. Upcycling is a big deal and it’s on trend right now, but you need to pick the furniture first! You can use videos to learn upholstery and re-do your chairs and sofas as much as you like. Right now is the best time to transform your furniture, and you can buy fabric online so you don’t even need to wait until lockdown ends to get the equipment you need.
  • Join A Book Club. You finally have all the time in the world to catch up on reading. Chilling out with a book is the ultimate relaxation escape, and right now, you need escape! So, choose literary greats you’ve wanted to read and make a list. You need to feel like you have somewhere to go in your mind, and this is it!
