OMG! My Daughter E Is 21 Years Old today

August 2, 2018

It’s been 21 years today since I first held my daughter in my arms for the very first time. The memory is as clear today as if it was yesterday. So much has happened in 21 years and it’s frightening how quickly the time has gone by.

When you were born you weighed just over 5lbs and within 24 hours you gave us all a fright by turning blue and having a shallow breath. It turned out you were using all your energy to breathe and didn’t have any energy to feed. After a couple of weeks in hospital you were back on track and growing quickly.

During your school years you always had the academic brain to achieve and it must have been hard to follow in your sisters footsteps when it came to sport, but you found your niche in sport. You started playing football and yes you were very good at it which culminated in you being picked to play for Wales. An incredibly proud moment for me, and you really had a determination to achieve at the highest level in football and there is no doubt you did.

The stress on the day your A’ level results were due, I don’t think I will ever forget! As usual you had decided you had not done enough to pass your exams, but when you had your results and told me, well, I burst into happy tears. It also meant you were off to university to study nursing.

You have now almost finished your university course and will be a qualified nurse soon! Those three years of incredibly hard work has paid off. You fitted so much into your life in such a short time, and you have now become independent and nearly self sufficient. The world is there for you to conquer which I have no doubts you will. My job as your dad is done. I hope I have helped guide you through the minefield of growing up and helped prepare you for the next stage in your life.

So today you are 21 years old and I’m so proud of all your achievements, and this really is the start of the rest of your life and I know that you will succeed in life. I hope you find happiness, contentment and you find all the good things that life can offer. Just don’t try to look too hard, because it will just fall into place one day.

I love you very much and I really hope you have a 21st birthday to remember.

Happy birthday darling daughter xx
