Our Family Day out to West Midland Safari Park

We live approximately a  two and half hour drive away and they open at 10am so we wanted to be there before they opened the park and has it happened we arrived at 9.30am meaning we were third in the queue. 

We allowed the girls to sit up front on mummy’s lap so they could see all the animals up close. The girls thought this was really exciting!

So the gates opened and we drove in to see all of the animals. The safari is four miles long and has a huge selection of animals including lots of the big cats. The first section is mostly deer and rhinos and buffalo and there are lots of them. I was very impressed by the rhino with their skins that looked like armour!

We then drove to some gates that were operated on a traffic light system. As the gates closed behind us the gates in front would open.

The girls were getting very excited calling out all the names of all the animals!

Some African white lions walked very close to our car and it was amazing to see how big they were and so powerful looking.

It was also feeding time so watching them feed was quite incredible.

Through this area of the park there were bengal tigers, cheetahs and white bengal Tigers. There were also African wild dogs and African white lions. 

The amazing amount of species of various animals was truly incredible and all in huge open spaces. I suppose it’s the closest thing you get to seeing them in their natural environment.

One funny moment did happen whilst I was driving around. A deer was very close to the car and as I was slowly easing my way past it,  my wife shouted at me to be careful whilst saying “You’re going to kill an animal!” I might add that I was nowhere near the animal and then one of our daughters, R , decided to join in and said, “Dad you are going to run over his toes!” It did make me laugh and I can reassure you that I didn’t harm any animals! 

The drive though took one and a half hours so it was a fantastic chance for R and M to see lots of animals and they never got bored because of the way the Safari Drive is set up. There is always another animal to see. 

We came out of the safari park and parked the car to enter theme park area.

The theme park is full of rides, but also has many other attractions which included reptile world, penguins and a sea-quarium to name a few. We wandered around the different exhibits and the girls were loving looking at all the different species they had at the different exhibits. 

We also went to a new exhibit called the Land of the Living Dinosaurs.

M was not very keen to begin with, but we explained to her that they were only toys and not real. Bless her! I think she thought they were real dinosaurs. Once we were in there she loved it and R was walking around with her pretend phone taking pictures which was really quite funny to watch!

We then went to see the sea lion show which was good fun.

We now walked down to the theme park and headed to the tiny tots theme park where the girls had unlimited use of all the rides and we spent about one hour there which the girls loved.

Our day was coming to an end so we walked back toward the entrance, but as we were leaving there was a colony of meerkats that the girls thought were adorable.

We then went to the Explorers Cafe for some food and then made our way to the souvenir shop to buy the statuary cuddly toy!

I will say that West Midland Safari Park is fantastic value for money with loads to see and a brilliant selection of animals, as well as the tremendous theme park. We all had a fantastic time and will definitely be visiting again.
