Our latest theatre trip to see The Cat in the Hat

R and M have been very lucky before they have even turned four years of age because they have been to the theatre so many times and they’ve seen shows including Room on the Broom,What the Ladybird Heard, Beauty and the Beast in an open air theatre and they have also seen Peppa pig, Octonauts and Mr Tumble and now The Cat in the Hat. All this is before they are four years of age. 

For me it’s so important that the girls go to live shows. That they experiance all the joys of seeing real people performing live on stage. It’s something I didn’t really experience as a child and going along has shown me what I missed out on. I love watching the girls faces of excitement and sometimes just in awe of what they are watching. 

We arrived at the show at 2 o’clock and to be very honest Dr Suess has always been a favourite of mine. I don’t know about the girls, but I was certainly excited. 

The stage was set exactly as I remembered the book and the show started promptly at 2pm. All the characters arrived on the stage fairly quickly including the Cat in the Hat. 

The stage show was portrayed exactly like the book and everybody played their part well, but it sort of lacked something. I’m not sure what, but their was little audience parcipation which was a shame because four year olds do like to be involved. 

Eventually the cast got involved a little bit more towards the end, but this was towards the end of show by which time I have to say the girls were getting a bit bored. 

Overall the show lacked excitement and audience involvement. At around 50 minutes long it wasn’t the best value for money as the cost of a family of four is £44. This I thought was quite expensive. 

For all of that the girls have experienced another live theatre show and this will broaden their imaginations.
