Our New Home Renovation

My wife and I have been together over 17 years. We started living together after just six months together. I was married previously and unfortunately it was a very expensive divorce which left me unable to consider buying a new home. As such my only option at the time was to live in rented accommodation.

Now, after 17 years together, we have finally been able to buy our very own home and the feeling is absolutely fantastic! I struggle to put into words how exciting it is.

When you live in rented accommodation you are very limited in what you can do with the property without seeking your landlords permission. If I’m honest, it’s very frustrating as you never quite make your home your own. Well, this is all about to change!

Our new home is very dated and basically needs to stripped back so that we can start over again. So far I have absolutely loved ripping out the kitchen and stripping all the old wallpaper off in every room!

We are now at a point where everything will come to a halt as electricians, plasterers etc will need to come and do their jobs before we can move on and start the best part of our home renovation, making our home our very own.

It’s important when undertaking any electrical work that you employ a reputable company who carry out an inspection to assess all the electrical systems and installations are up to code and then produce a EICR Certificate so you have peace of mind that everything is safe and correct.

We can start to pick our new homeware and furniture to suit our very own style. This of course means we get to go online and check out all the fantastic products that are available today. In particular Papaya is one company that sells homeware and furniture that suits our style perfectly. They have a fabulous choice and the colours are exactly what we are looking for.

Having lived in rented accommodation for so long I had completely forgotten how exciting it is to put your own personal stamp on your property. We are looking forward to picking the colours, fitting the walls and then working out what colour carpet goes the best with our sofas and then adding those little touches like rugs and cushions.

I have completely ripped out the old kitchen and decided to start again. There was an old pantry in the kitchen which was partly made of brick so I knocked down the wall and completely opened up that end of the kitchen, and I can’t wait to fit our new modern kitchen and add those personalised finishes.

It’s going to take about 8 weeks to make our new home habitable but in just a few days we have made massive strides and already you can visualise exactly how it’s going look. It’s a very exciting time.
