Parents Evening/Half Term

Last week we had parents evening, and as always I find it a little bit uncomfortable sitting down in front of a teacher, or in our case, two teachers (more about that later in the post). In a strange way it’s a bit like being back in school yourself. Sitting in front of a teacher reminds me of the days when I was in school. Not speaking until you’re spoken to etc. I suppose we never lose the respect that we had for our teachers. Very strange feeling.

The most important thing to come out of parents evening was that the girls are polite, courteous and apparently are a pleasure to have in the class. Omg! Are you really talking about my daughters? If only they behaved like that at home, haha! It never ceases to amaze me how different their behaviour is in school to what it’s like at home. School definitely installs a discipline and routine that never seems to exist at home. I will need to work on that!

As far as their educational progress is concerned, they are doing really well. The teachers are pleased at the level they are at, and they are exactly where they expect them to be at this stage of their education, which of course is always pleasing to hear.

Overall this particular parents evening was a huge success and it was fantastic to hear such lovely things said about the girls.

We have now started half-term and keeping them occupied for a whole week can certainly be a challenge to say the least.

I thought I would start with the longest game of hide and seek possible. I was going to tell the girls to hide somewhere in the house on Monday morning, and then I would just leave the house, rush to the airport and jump on a plane to Tenerife for five days! That’s ok isn’t it? I’m sure the girls will be fine! They are after all nearly six years old! One thing is for certain, they won’t find me in a hurry! By the way I am joking just in case anybody thinks I’m serious!

Of course there many things you can do to entertain the kids during half term, including day trips to a local farm park, or up to the local park for a couple of hours of fun on the swings and slides.

If the weather is bad, which of course, is the usual case in the UK, you can always have a craft session. The girls love making and creating, or simply just painting a picture.

There is so much you can occupy your children with today, and of course it needn’t cost a fortune. I remember when I was growing up, half term and school holidays quickly became boring, mainly because the only place to go was the local park. Times have changed thank goodness.
