You could also consider using furniture that’s meant for the outdoors as it is made to be more durable and scratch/moisture-resistant.
Place a cover on your furniture
Those of you that already have furniture and are welcoming a pet to the home should buy some covers to place on your couch. This can stop pet hair from being trapped in the couch fibers if you have a fabric one, and it also stops them from scratching the couch or staining it. All you have to worry about is cleaning the cover regularly, so ensure you have a couple to switch out when one is being cleaned!
Maintain your furniture
You need to keep up with regular maintenance of your couch to protect it from pesky pets. This means cleaning it regularly so it doesn’t stain and doing any running repairs. You can get things like a vinyl repair kit for leather or vinyl sofas, which helps you deal with peeling and small tears. There are loads of other furniture maintenance kits you can find as well, including odor sprays and protective sprays to ensure the material stays in excellent condition.
Buy a scratch post
Lastly, and this is mainly for cats as dogs don’t scratch furniture with their claws, you should buy a scratch post. Or, you can buy a scratch mat – it doesn’t matter what you get, what matters is you have something for your cat to scratch. It should mean that they scratch this to sharpen their claws, rather than scratch your sofa. You can actually buy a scratching post that fits on the corner of your sofa, which is a great idea if your cat constantly goes up to it to start scratching!
