Protecting Your Home While Renovating

April 11, 2024

Over the years I have renovated a few homes. The most recent being the one we currently live in. We moved into our current home about three years ago and it was in a quite a mess so it was going to need a complete renovation including re-decorating every room, and installing a new kitchen and bathroom.

The only bonus for the house was that it had brand new carpets. Literally just fitted months before we moved in. The carpets were definitely something we wanted to save. Of course to carry on with the renovation we would need to decide what the best way to protect the carpets would be. This is where a carpet protection film is the perfect solution during a renovation of your home. A carpet protection film will make sure all of your carpets are totally protected during a renovation and you can get on with the renovation in the knowledge that you won’t spill anything on your carpets.

Once all the carpets were protected and safe the first job was to remove all of the built in furniture such as wardrobes, and of course, strip the bathroom and kitchen completely so you can start installing your new bathroom and kitchen.

Once everything is removed you then have a blank canvas to start again and you can stamp your own personality and character on your new home.

The kitchen was the first room that we decided to tackle. First of all we had removed old white tiles from the walls which was a very tough job. Once they were removed I employed a plasterer to skim all of the walls so we would get a perfect finish once the kitchen was fitted. The kitchen had two other rooms running off it and it can be a very dusty job so having a carpet protection film was absolutely brilliant.

The kitchen was very similar to the bathroom again having to remove old tiles and then with workmen coming back and forth to fit the new bathroom there was a lot of walking on carpets so again having them protected was perfect.

Finally all rooms such as the bedrooms, lounge, dining room and of course the hall, landing and stairs all needed a new coat of paint on the ceilings, walls and woodwork.

When you have decided to save the carpets and they are protected, re-decorating the rooms is made much easier when you do the painting so that if you splash any paint you know it won’t go on the carpets which gives you complete peace of mind during your renovation.

Our renovation was completed in just three months and yes, we saved all the carpets and didn’t get anything on them because of carpet protection film.

Have you renovated your home? How do you protect your carpets? I would love to hear in the comments below.
