Reasons To Get Your Teenager Driving

March 9, 2021

Parents want the best for their teenagers, but sometimes the best thing feels epically scary! Getting your teenager to shower and get up out of bed in the morning is hard enough, and yet here you are considering getting them behind the wheel of the car to teach them how to drive. It’s terrifying as a parent, and while it’s tempting to delay this moment and keep them off the road and safer for longer, it’s not a good idea.

There are plenty of positives to allowing your teenager to learn to drive properly, and while them being on the road feels worrying, you are in control here! You can get them the best driving lessons with the best driving school, and you can help them learn to drive to the budget that you can manage and not worry anymore about whether it’s a good idea to go for it. If you’re still worrying about your teenager being behind the wheel of a car, we’ve got some of the best reasons that you should go for it and buy them their first block of driving lessons now.

  • They’ll be more independent. You want to ensure that your kids are growing into capable, happy young adults, and the best way to do that is to give them the chance to be independent. Driving not only helps them to find a good job, it helps you to get them out of the house and doing things that are important to them. This is the first tendril of independence you can offer your kids, and it’s something that you’re going to need to do. Letting go as a parent isn’t easy, but guess what happens when you let go of their hands? You get yours back!
  • You give them more responsibility. The one thing that most teenagers crave is your trust. This is what allows them to reach out a little more towards you, and you are then able to be closer to your teenager. Speak to your teenagers about the responsibility on their shoulders when they have their own license – the road rules, the crash statistics, the importance of not driving their rowdy friends who will egg them on with their driving. Hopefully, they will be able to see that being allowed to drive will give them this chance to do more, and when they get that chance, they won’t want to ruin it by being reckless.
  • It’s far more convenient. Teenagers ache for freedom, and a car and lessons give them that! When they get their first driving license, you are going to delegate some important responsibilities to them and they can finally do things on their terms. No longer will they have to ask you for a lift to get somewhere, and you don’t have to drive them to their events anymore, either! It’s so convenient for them to have their own car to control!
  • It’s a good way to bargain! You want your teenager to be independent and responsible and they want to drive, so why not use driving lessons as a bargaining chip? If they get into college, you’ll buy their car and insurance for the year. Do we approve of bribery? Absolutely not – much, anyway! However, this is something your teenager wants, and you can get what you need as a result.
