Renewing your Bathroom 

It has been about 12 years since we have renewed our bathroom and after 5 children it was starting to look worn out and very tatty. The grouting had discoloured very badly, the tiling was looking dated and the shower door on the bath was leaking water when anybody had a shower.

So we took the plunge and have decided to invest in a new bathroom that is modern and practical with the aim of utilising every inch of floor space.

We wanted to keep it simple but have a classy look and the tilling that we had been looking at were mosaic tiles. There is a fantastic selection available with all sorts of designs too.

One of biggest decisions was for us was do we keep the bath or do we have just a shower cubicle? Of course nowadays shower cubicles come in many sizes and we just needed to plan where everything goes. Both of us agreed that we’d like to keep the bath, but with a difference we really fancied a jacuzzi style of bath.

Most bathrooms never have enough space to store towels and toiletries so it was also important to have a small selection of cupboards for storage with an incorporated generous sized sink.

A lot of bathrooms never have enough light and we decided to have spotlights in the ceiling and also a large mirror which also lights up.

The flooring was also an important part of our new design, but with four year old twins it had to be a anti-slip for when our girls get out of the shower soaking wet, as the last thing we want is them slipping and having an accident. Thankfully there are loads of options available today.

Finally our colour scheme had to be decided. It’s best in my opinion to pick the tile and then have the rest of your colour scheme decided by your tile choice.

When renewing your bathroom it’s also very important not to cut corners. It has an enormous amount of use and is not likely to be changed again for many years so design and the decision on the quality of materials is vital.
