School Photos Parents Evening Year 1 (My Twins)

We are coming to the end of the first half of the first term of year 1 for my five year old twin girls. Oh how they are changing! At times I completely fail to understand what they are talking about!

On Monday just gone the girls had their school photographs taken. The conversation I had was interesting to say the least. It reminded me that the girls are only five years old and sometimes are very limited with their explanations about their day at school.

So I asked how did school go today and did you have your school photographs taken. They replied at the same time I might add, which I can assure you is sometimes very difficult to understand five year old twins talking very quickly at the same time to you!

What I believed to understand from their reply was that M had her photograph taken with a girl and R had her photograph taken with a boy. Then they both had a photograph together with a girl

I replied with; “So you had your photograph taken with random other children? They looked at me and agreed and both said yes. Hang on a minute I said this doesn’t make sense, we just wanted one of you on your own and then one together. The girls replied we did dad, the girl took a photograph of M and the boy took a photograph of R and then the girl took a photograph of us together. Oh right the penny dropped with me! So girls the photographers were a boy and girl, not a lady and man! To which they replied that’s right dad, how stupid am I, haha!

As I have said it taught me a lesson about how little they still are and explaining themselves can be difficult for them. As parents we have de-code what they are saying to find out exactly what has gone on. We can at times forget they are not adults and explaining something for them is not as easy as it is for us.

First Parents Evening Of Year 1

Last night we went to the girls first parents evening of year 1. I always worry that the girls are progressing at the right speed and keeping up with the class, although at 5 years old I’m fully aware that they will learn at their own speed, M was definitely a little bit behind last year and most likely struggling to grasp everything in class, but I feel that was to do with the fact that they had many different teachers in a very short few months which must have unsettled them.

However, the good news is that M has got back on track again with her learning. The teachers said she is exactly where they would expect her to be. R, what can I say! The desire and thirst to learn and get it spot on, well I have never seen such a determined five year old! It’s a pleasure to watch her learn, she’s so committed and this was echoed by her teachers.

Overall parents evening was a pleasure. Both girls are a pleasure to have in class, they are helpful and love to learn. Most importantly they are well behaved which is music to my ears. As a parent you couldn’t ask for anything more.

R and M have had a very positive start to their second year in school, and starting their first out of school club, Rainbows, as well. The girls really are growing up so quickly. Please slow down! Can’t they stay little forever, haha! No chance of that!

Yesterday morning they also announced to me that they met Sam Warburton, the welsh rugby player and captain. He came into their classroom on a visit to the school. I will say this is probably not that unusual because he actually attended this school as a child, and makes regular visits back to the school.
