I See a Little Bit of Me in All My Children

February 1, 2017

When I observe my children it really amuses me that they have some of my traits. Quite often they really are very small insignificant things or they could tell me something that they have done and I smile and instantly think yes, I did that! Haha!

Your children are going to pick up habits from you by simply watching you and that in my opinion is very different from inherited traits. Nowadays I often see myself doing things that my mother does and scream inside OMG! I’m turning into my mother oh! My poor wife!

So here is a selection of things that I think my children have inherited from me ,that unfortunately they will never ever be able to shake them off. It’s part of their DNA. Sorry kids!

I’m going to start with my eldest, J. The one thing that she has definitely inherited from me is my inability to read or follow instructions. Much to my wife’s frustrations when I have do something involving instructions I ignore them!

My eldest, J, told me a story about cooking a chicken. It said all over the packet do not remove from packaging, but she did. I laughed because I did exactly the same thing with our turkey! I suppose it’s trying to do things too quickly!

My 19 year old daughter, E, has a very competitive edge to her personality and this is particularly prevalent when she is playing football. She plays in exactly the same position as I used to and has one objective which is to score goals. I might add she is very good at it and was approached every game to score goals and losing wasn’t a option. If she was having a bad game the frustration and annoyance was there for all to see. It was like watching myself 20 years ago. At times I feel she is a perfect replica of me.

My 17 year old son, A, has also inherited a few of my traits. There are a couple of things that always strike me. Like me he is a creature of habit and a homebody. There is no doubt I am very habitual and I love my hometown of Cardiff and never intend to leave.

Now, it’s time for the twins who are just five years old, but already I see them doing things that I’m sure they have inherited from me. First up is R. She likes everything in it’s place and now she has taken to folding her clothes neatly for the next day. This is totally me. Ha ha!

Where as M is more flighty about everything, but one trait I see in her is not doing something straight away, putting it off and she definitely bores quickly while doing an activity which is exactly how I am.

Having five children fascinates to me to watch how they inherit our traits and behaviours. Are they born with them as part of their DNA or is it copied as they watch us?

Do your children have any of your traits? I would love to know!

its sometimes scary how much my daughter is just like me, and my wife’s daughter is just like her. We both have our own little clones
