Staying Fit And Healthy With A Smart Watch From Very.co.uk

August 18, 2024

Throughout my life, I’ve always tried to stay as fit and healthy as possible. During my youth I played a lot of football however, my biggest love, and the one I enjoyed most to keep me active was cycling. It’s something I did from a very early age and I’ve continued to cycle throughout my life.

About eight years ago I had a stroke. Thankfully, I completely recovered and it didn’t leave me with any lasting disabilities. After the medics had completed all of their examinations, they discovered the stroke was caused by high blood pressure. This is now under control through medication, but the consequences of the stroke made me more aware of my general health and made me more determined to take better care of myself.

As a result, I increased my cycling as it’s a great way to reduce blood pressure in addition to the medication I’ve been prescribed. Another great thing about wearable tech, is that I can set up medication reminders on my Apple Watch. This means I’ll never forget to take my medications. It’s a fantastic feature.

We now live in a world where technology can help to keep a careful eye on our health. There’s no better way to do this than with a smart watch. A smart watch can track our daily lives in a lot of detail, and this will enable us to look after our health better.

I have teamed up with Very.co.uk and for their Smart Watch Campaign which is all about how wearable tech can help you to stay healthy and fitter, and how you can use it to suit your lifestyle.

I decided that an Apple Watch would be perfect to help with my cycling rides and my general day to day life. Whilst browsing the Very.co.uk website I was very impressed at the huge selection of smart watches and electricals available. They have a very extensive range and I’m sure you wouldn’t have any problem selecting what you need or want if you’re looking for wearable tech.

Very.co.uk have a big selection of all different makes and types of smartwatches on their website. I decided to choose an Apple Watch because I have an iPhone. As such, I knew it would be very easy to pair them together so all the data can be shared between the two. This makes all the data easily obtainable on either device.

It’s not that long ago that I had no easy way of working out how far I’d cycled but with wearable tech such as a smart watch, I am now able to record the distance, pace and time using the Strava app on my Apple Watch. It will also mean I won’t need to take my iPhone on my bike rides – absolutely perfect!

What does the Apple Watch Series 9 do? (RRP £529.00)

The Apple Watch Series 9 really is an essential companion to lead a healthy life. The Series 9 has an S9 chip which creates a super bright screen. This makes it easy to interact with the screen just by touch. It came with the latest sport loop strap which is carbon neutral. The strap is very comfortable and easy to use when putting your smart watch on.

You can make a call, send a text, stream music etc, all without having your iPhone nearby. This will be perfect on my bike rides. The aluminium Apple Watch Series 9 will keep an on your blood oxygen, take an ECG, and you can get notifications if you have an irregular heart rhythm.

The Apple Watch also comes with 3 months Apple Fitness+ for free.

One feature that I particularly like is ‘Fall Detection’ and ‘Crash Detection’. This will connect you to emergency services in the event of a hard fall or a serious car crash. This really does give me peace of mind while out cycling.

The Apple Watch Series 9 is crack resistant, IP6X certified, dust resistant and swim-proof with 50m water resistance.

Finally, it has ‘double tap’ which really is a magical way to use your Apple Watch without touching the screen.

How the Apple Watch series 9 will help my lifestyle.

First of all, the Apple Watch has 3 exercise rings: Move, Exercise and Stand. Move targets the amount of calories you will burn each day. Exercise targets the number of minutes you exercise each day. Stand targets how many hours a day you aim to stand for. You can customise these to suit your own goals. For example, you could set your exercise ring to 30 minutes per day and the move ring to 500 calories to burn each day. You could also set your stand ring goal to 12 hours per day. These are just my settings and it can sometimes be a challenge to close the rings, but it’s definitely worth the effort to help you lead a healthier lifestyle.

Of course my main use of my Apple Watch Series 9 is to use it on my bike rides. This is when it comes in very useful. I have already used it on a few bike rides and found it incredibly useful in checking the distance I’d ridden, along with my pace and speed.

The Apple Watch allowed me to just glance down at my wrist to find out my stats for that ride. I like that I didn’t have to stop to take my iPhone out of my pocket to check, which of course would have stopped my moving time, and if I’m honest always irritates me! Still, that’s a thing of the past now that I have an Apple Watch!

I also like the fact that I can check my BPM (beats per minute) before a bike ride and immediately afterwards to see how quickly it reverts to a normal BPM.

Final conclusions

With the speed that technology is moving at, it will undoubtedly benefit all of us to lead a much healthier and fitter life. Smart watches can enable us to track our bodies in new ways that were simply not available to us just a few years ago. For me, it will help me lead a much healthier lifestyle and I will be able to track so many parts of my life. It really is a game changer for me.
