The 3 Things You Need To Have In An Off Grid Home

December 10, 2021

There is a very big allure to dropping everything and living in some remote area where you are free to live the way that you like. Luckily, this dream is more doable than ever before. Living off grid no longer means that you are roughing it without modern conveniences.

You can enjoy electricity due to the fact that solar panels can work just about everywhere. And if you are in a tiny house, then the 100w solar panel dimensions for a system is usually enough. And that’s just the beginning.

In this article, we will go over all the things you need to be able to live off grid in comfort so you don’t have to sacrifice much.

1 – Passive energy

People rightly look at solar panels straight away for their energy needs at their off grid house. It’s only natural since they are cheaper than ever and far more efficient at producing energy than in years past. However, it isn’t the only way to produce energy. And if there is stormy weather, it’s nice having some back up in case there isn’t enough electricity being produced by the sun.

Wind turbines are also a great way to produce passive electricity for an off grid home. It can produce at any hour of the day as long as there is enough wine, too. This means that if it is windy then you can have electricity even at night when you would normally need a battery for collecting solar energy during the day.

If there is a stream of running water nearby then you can also put a water turbine in and make energy 24 hours a day. If the current is strong enough then you may be able to get all of your power needs there since it doesn’t stop running at all.

2 – Your own water supply

Not everybody is lucky enough to have a water source like a stream or lake on their property that they are able to draw water from. The people that don’t should be able to dig a well and get a constant source of fresh and clean water.

There are artesian wells that are essentially like underground streams in which water flows between the layers of rock and sediment. This is ideal as they are very common in most of the country.

3 – Space for a garden

One of the best ways to be resilient against lots of changes to society or economy is to grow your own food. Food scarcity is becoming a problem across large portions of the world. When you grow your own you can use it as a bulwark towards scarcity and even just rising prices.

All you need is a few hundred square feet to produce enough food for a family of four if you do succession planting. No matter what the climate is, you can produce food year round. Even in cold areas of Canada and Northern US you can use greenhouses to grow tomatoes and other warm weather vegetables.
