The Best Pre-Schooler Halloween activities
Spooky season is here, and that means costumes, pumpkins and sweet treats! If your child isn’t quite old enough to go out trick or treating, you might be looking for some inspiration for some fun, festive activities to take part in at home.

Thankfully, we’ve got just the thing — you and your little one could trick or treat yourself to these Halloween activities and have a fang-tastic time together.
Paper plate pumpkins
In preparation for Halloween, you might want to decorate the house with your little one, to get them excited for the big day. This doesn’t mean that you need to go out to buy decorations, since you and your little ghoul could get creative and make your own.
Of course, your child is too young to be wielding a knife to carve a pumpkin, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t have a jack-o-lantern of their own.
Your child could make a paper plate pumpkin, painting their own design on the plate and using materials of their choice to make it unique. You will need:
- A paper plate
- Paint
- Glitter or stickers (optional)
Once the pumpkin is ready you could help them by piercing a hole in the top of the plate and threading some ribbon through it. Now their scary masterpiece is ready to be hung up on display.
The fun doesn’t have to stop there, as you could also make paper plate monsters or even some wicked witches’ hats!
Ghostly Bowling
Your child could test their hand-eye coordination with a game of ghostly bowling! All you’ll need is:
- Six plastic water bottles
- Glue
- Tape
- Some white paper
- Googly eyes
- A ball
To make the ghoulish pins, you’ll need to cover the water bottles in paper, wrapping it around the bottles and sticking it with some tape. You can then stick the googly eyes to the paper using the glue and set the bottles in a bowling pin pyramid formation.
If you have a soft ball, you may be able to find a space in the house where you can have a bowling tournament! If not, you could take the pins outside to see who will be the ghostly bowling champion.
Not only could you take part in a fun game, you could also remind your child about the importance of reusing and recycling single-use plastics, like the bottles that you’ll use to make the pins.
Halloween cupcakes
All of this crafting is hungry work, so you and your little one might want to have a go at making some creepy cupcakes. There are plenty of simple Halloween cupcake recipes online, and your child could help you to make these tasty treats, decorating them to their liking once they’ve cooled. You can then share your delicious creations with friends and family!
Once your energy levels are refilled and you’re fuelled for more festivities, you could go online and check out some of the Kiddi Caru Halloween activities from the nursery chain, for example, that you could try next!
