The History of Strictly Come Dancing
Would you believe that Strictly Come Dancing is now into its twelfth series? The BBC dancing competition has been such a hit with viewers that it is now a genuine rival for shows like the X-Factor on Saturday and Sunday nights, with the celebrity dancers regularly attracting more viewers than the pop hopefuls.
Over the years we’ve seen some pretty incredible performances, from the likes of Abbey Clancy, Pixie Lott, Kara Tointon and Louis Smith in recent years, as this infographic from Great British Bingo shows. Some of the dancers have received such high scores that you would almost expect them to be professionals on the show in a view year’s’ time, or even judges as in the case of Alesha Dixon who won Series 4 of the show.
We’ve even seen some celebrities who had no coordination at the start of the show let alone a history in dancing, going on to reach the latter stages in the competition. Then, of course, there are the stars that haven’t exactly set the dancefloors on fire. Some people should maybe stick to their day jobs rather than donning the sparkling outfits and trying to dance because it’s been very cringeworthy to the point where you just want to take them out for a drink and help them through it!
This infographic, which is a great way of showing some of the statistics from the show to give us a flashback to the early series (when, I’ve got to be honest, I didn’t even realise it was on let alone who was taking part), and to help us to see which dance moves have been the best or the most profitable in terms of how many points the stars have been scoring each week.
The show has even made the number seven cool, especially when you find that you’re out in a social environment and you’re shouting “SEVEN!” in Len Goodman-style! (Believe me, you will do if you watch the show for long enough).
In the latest installment of the show we’ve got the likes of Peter Andre taking part and to be honest, he’s probably going to walk it (no pun intended) with some of the competition at nowhere near his standard at the moment. Who knows though, we might see another Darren Gough come through as the series progresses.
