The Role That Broadband And The Internet Plays In Our Lives

November 19, 2020

The year 2020 will be remembered as the year that our lives changed beyond recognition. Whether that be at home or in the office, life as we knew it changed in an instant. For the majority of people that’s because a large percentage of the population now work remotely from home.

Of course if the COVID-19 pandemic had happened 10 years ago the complications of working from home in truth would have been impossible to overcome. The internet was in its infancy 10 years ago so thank goodness the high speed technology highway was able to cope with the extra demands that have been put upon it in 2020.

Having broadband in the home has transformed our lives. It operates so many everyday tasks that we quite honestly take it for granted and so often once we have broadband installed in our home we never change the broadband supplier. This is a big mistake because nowadays there are so many suppliers of broadband services that it is to your benefit to shop around and find the best deals available. Of course that is very time consuming and will put many of us off bothering to see what broadband deals are available.

This is where a comparison site such as Broadband Genie are invaluable. They offer reviews on all UK broadband suppliers so you can make a more informed decision of which broadband supplier suits you the best. There are many reviews to chose from including smaller UK broadband providers. It’s always best to pick a broadband provider when it’s based upon other people’s experiences.

Looking around my home it’s really mind boggling how many things wouldn’t operate without broadband. Here are a few examples:

1. Alarm System

Our alarm system is operated via our broadband modem. It’s all linked via a main hub and then all the information is gathered in our home. If, for example any suspicious behaviour is picked up, we are notified straight to our smart phone that possibly somebody is trying to break in. This is invaluable and of course it wouldn’t be possible without a broadband connection.

2. Lighting

The smart home revolution has only been possible since broadband and the technology has become available to operate so many different parts of our home. One particular area that we have is the lighting in our home. From my smartphone while I’m away from home I’m able to turn lights on which is a great way to deter anybody thinking of breaking in, because if a light is on they are very likely to move on simply because with a light on the chances are somebody is at home.

3. Heating

During the cold winter months when we have the heating on more often to keep us warm and cosy at home, this of course can be expensive because leaving the heating on when nobody is home is very costly. Fortunately that is no longer an issue. I now have an app on my smartphone where I can turn the heating on before I arrive home so you walk into a lovely cosy house. Of course this is powered by the broadband as the heating is now connected via the broadband modem. Smart technology is really helping us in our daily lives.

The world and the way we live has changed and it has been a very quick change and broadband and the internet have been the major factor in these changes which are designed to make our lives easier. There are quite simply hundreds of ways the broadband operates in our home.

So picking the right broadband provider is vital so that you have the right package to suit all your and your family’s needs for the internet and our lives today. Airband, provide fibre broadband in the UK, but they really understand the struggles of accessing great internet speeds if you live in the countryside.
