Trying Something New for the New Year

January 2, 2022

As we step into 2022, many of us are looking for ways to make the year ahead more enjoyable and better for ourselves. Of course, we’re always doing our best for our kids. But when’s the last time you focused on yourself? To be able to take the best care of everyone else, you do need to prioritise yourself sometimes. Trying something new could help you to enjoy yourself more, improve your health and wellbeing or even give you a useful new skill. Here are just a few different ideas for new things you could try over the next 12 months.

Try a New Form of Fitness

It’s recommended that every adult gets one hundred and fifty minutes of moderate aerobic exercise a week. If you’re tighter on time, seventy five minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise will do too. But all too many parents fail to hit these targets. There are countless reasons. You could find that your schedule is too hectic, you’re too tired or you simply don’t enjoy exercise. But unless your doctor recommends that you don’t exercise as advised to the general population, it’s time to make sure that you are ticking these boxes. Trying a new form of fitness could help. Consider something you might actually enjoy – this will help you to stick to your goals. Whether that’s cycling, swimming, team sports or anything else.

Pick Up a New Hobby

When we think of hobbies, many of us think of children. Chances are, your kids have a host of hobbies that they head to. But why can’t adults have hobbies too? Hobbies allow you to spend some quality time to yourself doing something that you enjoy. There are so many different hobbies out there and the best for you will depend on your individual preferences and interests.  You could try pottery, creative writing, gardening, getting involved in motorcycles and motorcycle parts, weightlifting, learning a language, baking or cooking or absolutely anything else you might be interested in.

Bucket List Activities

Most of us have some sort of bucket list. Whether you’ve actually written it down or if you simply have a little list in your head. Put simply, a bucket list is a list of things you’d like to do before you “kick the bucket”. These activities could be small or major. Why not try ticking a few off? Popular bucket list activities include travel plans, career goals, relationship goals, volunteering, gaining knowledge and more. Think of all the things you’d like to do most and start ticking some of them back.

Try New Foods

Most of us have routine meals that we rotate every week or so. But why not try some new foods that you haven’t given a go before? There’s a whole world of culinary delights out there and you could be missing out on some of your favourite foods that you haven’t even tried yet!

All of the ideas above could prove to be beneficial to you! Hopefully, some will appeal to you and help to make your 2022 a lot better. Why not give them a go?
