What to Look for When Hiring A/C and Heating Services

May 6, 2022

Most people take their A/C and heating for granted until those systems aren’t working. In desperation, homeowners may want to call the first HVAC company they find on the internet. But, there are better ways to find an HVAC company, and it benefits homeowners to do their homework and find a trusted, reliable company to meet their needs. Keep reading for tips on finding a company that will not only fix any problems but also provide maintenance for systems for years to come.

Recommendations from Family and Friends

Friends and family will be honest with you. They will tell you the good and the bad as you look for A/C and heating services. Ask who they recommend (or don’t recommend), and also ask why they feel that way. Be sure to ask about the company’s services, pricing, and professionalism.

Read Reviews Online

Once a homeowner narrows down the list by hearing from friends and family, they should go online to check previous client reviews. Checking sites like Google or Yelp will provide both good and bad reviews, so be sure to read a variety. You want to get a good overall feel for the company. Don’t be too discouraged by one disgruntled customer.

Homeowners can also read testimonials from previous clients on the company’s website, on trucks, or in advertising. A testimonial will only be a positive endorsement, and usually references a time when the company went above and beyond the call of duty to provide exceptional service.

Look for Licenses

Check to make sure that the company and its technicians are fully licensed. The last thing you want is to hire a company that is not licensed and ruins your A/C or heating system.

Interview for Details

Be sure to interview each company, asking about prices, warranties, and energy efficiency of the products they install. The lowest price doesn’t always mean the best deal. For example, if a company sells an A/C unit very inexpensively, but it is very inefficient, the homeowner is likely to end up paying more money in the long run.

Look for Experience

Homeowners feel more comfortable hiring someone based on family or friend recommendations, and they will also feel more comfortable knowing that a company has been serving an area for many years. If the company has been successful for years, they are probably provide good service and will remain in business for many more years. Sometimes, new installations and repairs come with warranties for three, five, or even ten years. There is peace of mind knowing that if a company has been serving the community for many years, it probably will continue serving the community for the length of the warranty, if not longer.

Look for Other Services Performed

While homeowners may not need any other repairs at the time, look for companies that do more than just A/C and heating systems. This ensures they are professional and understand how household systems interact. It also allows homeowners the opportunity to build a relationship with a company, using them repeatedly for plumbing, electrical, and other household needs.

There’s no shortage of A/C and heating companies. Be sure to do your research to find a company that is trustworthy and reliable to meet your A/C and heating needs.
