Why I’m So Open About My Life Through My Blog?

July 19, 2018

I have often thought what makes a blog authentic, interesting and engaging, and I have always come to the same conclusion. It has to be real and relatable that connects with the reader, and you sometimes have to lay your heart and soul on the page, and very importantly be honest, especially if it’s a personal post about yourself that’s when you simply can’t hold back, say it as is it. At least that’s my humble opinion.

As the title says why am I so open about my life on my blog? Well, there are a number of reasons why, and if I’m entirely honest every single reason is for me.

My blog started out as a hobby to write about mostly DIY. At some point, although I’m not entirely sure when, my writing took a different direction. I had this overwhelming feeling to write about my life, it’s ups and the many downs etc.

It would be very easy to say that I have had a tough life, but this is not an expression I would like to use. I have always considered my life as interesting. It certainly wasn’t a normal childhood or at least what people consider normal.

I decided if I was going to write about my life it needed to be honest and I wasn’t going to leave anything out, just because maybe it might make uncomfortable reading.

Authenticity is so important to me, and a part of authenticity for me is telling it as it is, I didn’t want to write something that as you read it, you feel it is fake, and I hope with my honesty and complete openness about my life that it has appealed to the reading public, but more importantly if just one person can resonate with what I have written and dare I say it has possibly helped somebody, then it has all been worthwhile.

Another reason I have written so openly, is that my blog is my therapy. It has helped me come to terms with so many things in life that have happened to me. If I wasn’t totally honest and open, then the therapy that my blog has given me would have fallen short. Sometimes showing your heart and soul and laying yourself bare is the greatest form of therapy there is. It allows all the bad thoughts running around in your mind to ease away and free your mind. Which is actually one of the best feelings in the world.

If you are going to start a blog, if the subject matter is your life or your family, don’t fake it. Tell the truth and show the reality of life, because as in my life it’s not always pretty, and faking it will be found out quickly. There are lots 2.4 children families out there running through fields of corn that are so obviously fake lives. Those blogs simply don’t last, and it must be exhausting to keep this going. Going out on the weekend with kids taking photo after photo just to capture that perfect photo to upload to Instagram.  Perfect people leading perfect lives, there is really no such thing. Or if it does its not something that has ever come into my life. the biggest question for me will always be what is missing in your life, that you have to create this totally ridiculous fake life.

Do it right and be open and honest, and the longevity of your blog is guaranteed, which I think my blog is.

I would love to know what your thoughts are.
