Your Later Years When You Have A Family

May 11, 2017

Right now we can all be a little guilty of focusing on the present day. The plans for the summer holidays, that next holiday we are counting down to. But often parents of children forget to consider the future. Not just twelve months from now, or your five-year plan, I am talking about the later years in life when you may have retired. It can seem like years off, and rightly so when you are young at heart. However, it is worth spending some time to think about your plans and future goals. After all, as a parent, we can all agree that time seems to move incredibly fast. So I thought I would share with you some of the subjects to think about. Whether you take a moment over a cup of coffee to ponder on them or decide to have a serious conversation about it, it will certainly be worthwhile.

Plans for when you retire

Do you have a plan in place for the time you no longer need to work? More often than not the older generation will advise that this is the perfect chance to rekindle old hobbies, perhaps travel with your loved one and family, or just enjoy a slower pace of life where you sit in the garden or read the Sunday papers uninterrupted. Right now you are working towards that future, so it can be inspiring and motivating to know exactly how you intend to spend that time.

What about your home?

Right now you may not know where you will be in ten, twenty or thirty years. Will you be in the home you are in now? Will you be living somewhere else? But the chances are at that stage of your life you will have put down some roots in your home and the area you live. So I can guarantee that if you are able to, you won’t want to leave that home. If anything, it could be the investment you have made for your children’s future after you are gone. At this point, considering options like mobility is going to be something of the norm for you. But, thanks to companies like Terry Lifts, it will be possible to stay in your home.

Your financial future

Retirement means that monthly wage comes to an end and you may start to draw from your pension. Of course, everyone will get their state pension, but we know that doesn’t equate to too much, however, if you are sensible, you may have paid into a workplace or a personal pension. Things like this need your consideration, now, giving you time to pay into them for your future. You could also have built up income from property, meaning you can release some equity from them for when you retire. Unfortunately, financial matters are something that is best considered sooner rather than later, to ensure that you are comfortable in your later years. With that being said, some people have found that trading and investing in cryptocurrencies has helped them to prepare their finances for the future. Moreover, thanks to the wide range of new trading tools and platforms like Ternion out there nowadays, getting started in the crypto markets has never been easier. Accordingly, if you would like to learn more about some of the most popular trading tools, checking out some of the resources on the Kryptoszene website such as this Ternion im Test (Ternion review) might be useful.

You don’t need to have a full plan in place, but considering some of these options could make life in those later years more rewarding and enjoyable.

This is very true and quite daunting when you think about it in detail, our children grow up so quickly, my eldest are in their 30’s already, how can I be old enough and my baby is 25 this year

Future planning is so important. I remember the amount of times people in their 20’s would scoff at me if I mentioned pensions whilst doing a financial review, the future always seems so far away doesn’t it? Remembering things like your mortgage should be paid off, or your life insurance should already be in place (especially for those of us with family-not just children!)

I look at my grandparents now, off on cruises twice a year and spending their days having lunch out and wandering round antiques fairs. We have a plan, mainly because 16 years from now my husband will be retired, and yet we will still only be in our 40’s!

Great post! Everyone should think about the future! X
