[AD] 3 Valuable Life Lessons To Teach Kids When They’re Young
As a dad, you’ve got many different hats that you don every single day. Today, it’s time to put on your teacher’s hat as you provide some much-needed wisdom to your children. As of writing this, most of you are in a lockdown situation due to the COVID-19 crisis. You probably have lots of time on your hands, and some kids that need your attention and no longer have school to attend. So, this is the perfect opportunity to sit them down and teach them a few life lessons that will help them as they get older.
Now, life throws many lessons at you, so which ones should you teach your kids? Here are a few that you can start with, but feel free to build on them and add your own:

Treat others how you wish to be treated
This is a great lesson for young children to learn. It’s all about being kind to other people and being more mindful of how you treat them. A lot of kids can be quite rude and brash towards other kids. It’s not that they’re horrible kids, it’s just that they don’t know any better. By installing this mantra in them when they’re young, it’s something they’ll grow up following as they get older and older.
Help those less fortunate than you
Similarly, teach your children the value of helping people who have less than you. This covers a whole range of different things. In a school sense, it could mean sharing some lunch with a child who doesn’t have much to eat because their parents can’t afford to pack a big lunch. It may mean offering some coloured pencils to a child that doesn’t have any. If you’re a religious family, then this is something that you naturally teach your kids and there are loads of ways to get them involved in giving to charity. I know a lot of Muslims are giving their Ramadan charity to Gaza to help those in need, many Christian churches offer charity collections for less fortunate people in the local community, and so on. The point is that you teach and show your kids how to help those that don’t have as much as they do. This also teaches them to be more thankful for what they have.
You need to work hard if you want something
We’re all a tiny bit guilty of spoiling our kids from time to time. That’s okay, as long as you don’t get into the habit of doing it regularly. Instead, you should teach your kids the valuable lesson that you need to work hard to get anything in life. This starts with something simple, like loading the dishwasher to get a treat or tidying their bedrooms to get a toy. If your kids ever want something, make sure they do something to get it. They will take this with them in life as they grow up knowing that nothing comes easy and that you always have to put in work to get what you’re after.
A child that grows up with these lessons will develop into a well-rounded adult that’s more conscious of themselves and of life. You’ll raise them to be more responsible, kind, and hard-working – everything a human being should be!
