[AD] Post-Corona Considerations: Things We’ll All Be Thinking A Little Harder About From Now On
Let’s face it. We rarely take stock of our lives or consider life-changing decisions when everything is fine and dandy. However, every now and then we get an epoch-defining moment come along. Something that makes us reflect on all the wonderful things we’ve taken for granted. Or the bad habits that have long led us down the wrong path. 9/11 was one such moment in recent history where the whole world sat up and took notice- taking the opportunity to reflect and re-asses. We rediscovered our sense of community as we learned to be vigilant. We also learned the scary truth about how many of us are willing to sacrifice liberty in the pursuit of security. We learned some of the right lessons… but a lot of the wrong ones.

This is another such moment.
With the country approaching another week in COVID-19 lockdown, many of us are starting to think about the lessons we’ll learn when life returns to something resembling normality. Here are some post-corona considerations that we should all bear in mind to create a better post-pandemic society…
Are we working too hard?
With many of of on furlough and yet more working from home, now is the time to start thinking a little harder about our work / life balance. While many of us are itching to throw ourselves back into work, we should also consider whether we’ve been working hard or working smart all this time? We work the longest hours out of anywhere in Europe. And yet, we have the worst productivity record. Could we focus our efforts on trying to get more done without the stress and strain of our previous working lives?
Are we spending enough time with friends and family?
We’re all learning just how precious our friends and family are. Especially those that are on the front line working for the NHS. This period of self-isolation has made us regret all those times we politely declined drinks with friends because we just wanted to collapse in front of the telly. Or the time we feigned illness to get out of seeing the sister-in-law’s holiday snaps. When all this is over, we’ll all be holding our loved ones extra close wondering how we could have ever taken them for granted.
Could we do more for the environment?
Take a look at the sky. Bright and cloudless and untainted by exhaust fumes. Look at the ground and its marked reduction in litter. Many of us will be thinking hard about what more we can do for the environment when all this is over. Maybe you’ll finally get rid of that smog belching monstrosity you drive and head to a local used car dealer like Ron Skinner & Sons for something greener. Maybe you’ll think harder about your water or energy use. Or perhaps you’ll dedicate some of your free time to pick litter in your area.
There are no wrong answers.
Could we get more involved in the community?
Finally, this pandemic has been a stark reminder of just how vulnerable some of those in our society really are. All over social media we see heart warming examples of neighbours reaching out to one another and communities rediscovering their sense of unity.
How will you get more involved in your community when all this is over?
