[AD] Finding Our Ideal Family Car With Motorpoint

Finding the ideal family car needn’t be difficult. You could spend hours traipsing around various dealers and still end up none the wiser. However, heading straight to Motorpoint could save you a lot of time and money.

As a family of four, choosing the ideal family car to suit our needs is important. Our 10-year-old twin girls are growing up quickly. This means they need more room when we’re on family days out. In particular, when we go camping, we could definitely do with more space.

Family camping trips mean packing a lot of equipment. One of the biggest complaints we get from our girls is that they are squashed in the back of the car. I must admit, they really are! They are surrounded by sleeping bags and many other pieces of camping equipment – it can’t be comfortable for them.

This is the main reason we have started to research what would be our ideal family car. We’d like something bigger than our current Vauxhall Meriva to ensure we can fit all our camping equipment in comfortably. In turn this will give the girls more room for the journey.

After doing lots of research I quickly came to the conclusion that a 7-seater car could meet our needs. I read some articles online and it became apparent that the Skoda Kodiaq was highly recommended. Not only is it great value for money, it’s big enough for all of us.

The Motorpoint Store

Motorpoint Swansea invited us in to test drive our ideal family car. All Motorpoint cars are newly near – most are under 4 years old and have less than 30,000 miles. Cars are under warranty and checked by experts. They also have a price promise (see more below) and a no haggle policy. This all makes shopping there a pleasant experience.

When we arrived the large car park had plenty of customer parking spaces which made parking easy. The store was very well organised. The cars in the showroom are arranged in terms of size. The smallest cars are in front of the showroom, and they increase in size from there. This made looking for a bigger car pretty easy as we just headed straight to the large car section. I really appreciated this small attention to detail. It meant we didn’t have to weave in and out cars of various sizes to find what we were looking for.

While browsing the showroom we were allowed to do so at our own leisure. There were staff on hand if we needed help. They were friendly and not pushy at all.

Our Ideal Family Car

We found a Skoda Kodiaq we could test drive and Sales Controller, Mike went through everything with us. They showed us all the controls and gave a detailed explanation of what the car had to offer.

At this point, it’s fair to say my wife and I were impressed by the knowledge of the staff. They knew the cars inside and out and didn’t hesitate in showing us how to change the Skoda Kodiak from a 7-seater to a 5-seater. The extra boot space for camping trips is ideal for us and when we’re not camping the extra seats will be handy when our girls have friends over.

Having never driven a Skoda Kodiaq before I was feeling a little nervous. It’s quite a bit bigger than our current car, however my nerves were settled by the way the Mike explained all the controls and how easy it was to drive.

Test Driving the Skoda Kodiak

With my driving licence in hand, and a 2nd piece of ID, Mike took down some details for insurance purposes and then we were ready to go on our test drive. With this being a paid collaboration with Motorpoint we were allowed to test drive the car for longer than a normal test drive.

For our test drive we headed to Mumbles Beach for a picnic. This meant we could really try out the car as a family. After all, owning a car means day trips, picnics and a day at the beach!

Our girls really liked that they could sit together in the two seats at the rear of the Skoda Kodiak. With all 7 seats up, we still had plenty of boot space for our picnic.

Mumbles Beach is such a beautiful spot for a picnic. Our girls loved it, especially playing in the seafront park looking out over the ocean.

Technology

The Skoda Kodiaq is a fantastic car. It has more technology inside the car than I have ever seen before. All of which make perfect sense. I absolutely love that it’s a keyless car. As long as you have the key on you the car will open just by touching the door handle. In addition, you can lock the car like this too. Shutting the boot is also just the touch of a button away!

The Sat Nav is easy to set and clear to follow. Plus it’s displayed right in front of the driver as well as on a central screen. All the various buttons in the car are clearly marked making it easy to understand exactly what they do.

And starting and stopping the engine is easy. At just the touch of a button on the steering column your engine starts!

The Skoda Kodiak we test drove is a flat grey colour. It’s a very on trend colour and looked stylish and sophisticated. Inside the car, the interior is a mix of leather and fabric. This gave it a very comfortable, cosy feel.

Overall, while driving the car, I felt it really stood out on the road and got people turning their heads. It even has heated seats which my wife in particular was impressed with!

Test Drive Thoughts

I loved test driving the Skoda Kodiaq from Motorpoint. Our Motorpoint experience was really enjoyable. Not only was it easy, but the staff were also friendly and informative. A super relaxed driving experience.

It was an absolute breeze to drive the Skoda Kodiak. For normal day-to-day driving, we’d likely have all 7 seats up. When we go camping, we’d definitely put the two back seats down to allow for more boot space and to give the girls more room for the journey. Whether we are going on a day out or on a camping trip, the Skoda Kodiaq is the perfect car for us.

Final Thoughts

Our Motorpoint Experience test driving the Skoda Kodiaq at Motorpoint was brilliant from beginning to end. The staff are amazingly helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. I never felt rushed and they took the time to explain everything about the process of the test drive and the car itself. I loved test driving this car from Motorpoint because they make buying a car easy.

If you’re looking for a car, I would highly recommend you check out Motorpoint either online or in store for your Motorpoint experience. Boot space is so important. We were camping this weekend and our estate car was packed solid, there was no room to move, and we have a roof box!
Buying a car os so much more complicated when you have kids that just keep growing!

Such a helpful post. Buying a car when you have kids needs to be a practical decision… so many factors to take into consideration.

That sounds brilliant Nige. We recently downsized from an 8 seater minivan, but still ended up getting a car with a 7 seat option. With kids you always need that extra bit of leg room. Sounds like you had great service from Motorpoint too.
