[AD] LockDown Has Made Me Realise My Home Needs Some Upgrading

April 16, 2020

We are now four weeks into lockdown and this is without question a long time to be in your home with just one hour a day allocated for outside exercise. This makes you look around your surroundings within your home, which is definitely something I have done, and I have come to the conclusion that I have neglected the interior and exterior of my home for way too long. I’ve decided that I am definitely not making the best use of the rooms and areas in my home.

So with all this unexpected time at home I have decided it’s time for some upgrading, home improvements and general jobs that have needed doing for far too long. It’s time to keep up with DIY and odd jobs so my list doesn’t grow too big. So what do I have planned?

Our lounge is desperately in need of decorating. The walls and woodwork definitely need a coat of paint and the colours need changing as it’s been the same for far too long.

The patio doors is one area of the lounge that definitely need replacing. They are probably over 20 years old and are very stiff and difficult to open. Once the Covid-19 pandemic crisis is over I will be getting them double glazed and will be going for doors that open outwards instead of the sliding doors we currently have. I will also be having new double glazed windows fitted in the lounge to match the new patio doors.

There are many odd jobs around the home that I will be doing such as resealing the bath and shower rooms. The white silicone has gone black and is looking awful so it will be a job to dig out the old silicone and install new brilliant white silicone.

My garden is now starting to come into its own with flowers beginning to come into full bloom, but of course the borders are also quickly sprouting weeds in the spring sunshine, so it’s time to get out in the garden to tidy it up, get the grass cut and start weeding so all our shrubs can be seen in their full glory.

Looking around my garden, it became obvious that my patios are in desperate need of replacing and I have now started looking into getting the Driveways and Patios renewed.

During the lockdown there is a lot DIY going around the home and I am no different, but I found that it’s a great way to keep busy and to have a routine during the long days of lockdown. It’s very therapeutic and is without question keeping my mind busy which in the long term can only be good for my mental health

During this time of the Covid-19 pandemic and with many countries in full lockdown it’s very important to have purpose and routine to your day and most importantly for your mental wellbeing. It would be very easy to stay in your PJ’s all day watching TV or gaming, but this will have a detrimental effect on our mental health over a prolonged length of time.

What do you do to keep your mental health in check during lockdown? I would love to hear in the comments below.
