[AD] Upgrading Your Bathroom

We have been living in our home for about 5 years now and when we moved in the bathroom was ok to use as it was and it wasn’t on our list of priorities as jobs to do. It was functional and that’s all it needed to be for the time being.

We have now completed many of the other jobs that were more important such as the kitchen as that needed a complete renovation.

This year we decided was the year to turn our attention to our bathroom. It currently has an avocado bathroom suite and although it’s functional it’s stuck in the 1970’s. As such it’s time to revamp the look and bring it all up to date with a modern sleek look.

I would like to think money was no object but sadly that is not the case. We have set aside a budget to hopefully create a bathroom that is functional but also modern and more in keeping with our tastes and preferences.

We are looking at trying to create a light bathroom because there is very little natural light and it’s not the biggest room so we want to utilise the space to its maximum.

Bathroom Products

We are parents of 9 year old twin girls who like to have a bath, as does my wife on occasion. So a new bath will be a must along with a washbasin. All the bathroom products will be in white. That way any colour I pick for the tiles will contrast beautifully and of course a toilet, once they are installed there won’t be enough room for a separate shower cubicle so we will have to have a shower over the bath with a shower screen.

Tiles

Picking the right tiles and how much of the bathroom you tile is very important. Our bathroom as I have already mentioned is a little bit on the small size. To give it a feeling of space and the illusion that it’s larger than what it is. I have decided to use large bathroom tiles from floor to ceiling.

While browsing the internet looking for the right tile I came across CTD (Ceramic Tile Distributors). They are the exclusive home of the Gemini wall and floor tiles.

I will be going for 600x600mm size tiles on the walls with a grey look. Something like this Tundra Sky Grey tile which will give warmth and feel light and airy.

For the floor I will use a Star Black Semi polished tile which will be the perfect contrast for the wall tiles.

Lighting

The lighting is very important and I will be going for a number of spotlights which are recessed into the ceiling and also a mirror with lights to complete the look.

That’s our big project this year, re-vamping our bathroom.
