[AD] Working From Home Has Seen Some Changes In The Home

April 6, 2021

The last year has certainly changed the way we are now leading our lives. With social distancing and wearing a mask when going to the shops, the list is endless of how so many things have now become the new normal in our daily lives. In all honesty most of us would have never thought it possible to live under the restrictions we have had to endure just a couple of years ago. How life has changed!

One area that has seen a massive change is the workplace in terms of how and where many of us now do our jobs. When the first stay at home order was issued in March of 2020, many of us to continued to do our jobs from home. This was a huge challenge, especially if you had young children at home. Finding a space that was quiet and away from the rest of family was in itself a huge challenge.

As working from home became more and more normal, most people started to look around their homes for a space that would be a suitable office such as a spare bedroom or even consider a house extension to create a completely new office.

Once you have decided where your new office is going to be it’s important to make it a comfortable and practical environment so that you can do your job to the best of your ability.

1. Furniture

It’s important you think very carefully about what type of desk you use because quite often it will have more than a monitor and quite likely a laptop, plus many other things that are required on your desk so getting the right size desk is very important. Another important piece of furniture is your chair. After all you could be sitting there for long periods of time on Zoom meetings. This is why it’s important to find a quality supplier of furniture such as Hampton & McMurray. They are a family run business with over 65 years experience and deliver all over the UK with a white glove delivery service.

2. Decor

It’s important to think about what colour you paint the walls. The last thing you want is bright orange or purple. Those colours would be so distracting. It’s important to pick colours that are neutral and calming such as a natural hessian or a light blue. Apparently light blue improves productivity so think very hard before you start painting those walls.

3. Wi-Fi signal

When you have previously worked in an office the internet connection is boosted dramatically so that the many hundreds of people working there don’t have issues when connected online.

At home we tend to have an internet connection that is adequate and quite often in certain areas of our home it’s very poor. For that reason it would be beneficial, especially as you will be testing the internet to its limits with all those Zoom meetings with your work colleagues, that you invest in a top quality broadband package so that your internet connection doesn’t drop in the middle of an important meeting.

Working from home is definitely going to be more common place now. Even when the pandemic is over, many people will continue to work from home for a part of the week, if not permanently working from home. If this happens it’s important to have that office space that makes you happy and allow you to do your job at the highest level.

How have you coped with working from home? I would love to hear in the comments below.
