Alan From OMG It’s A Girl Is Today’s Guest Post
Today’s post is by my very good friend, Alan, who blogs at OMG IT’S A GIRL. We have over the last couple of years had so much fun on social media, more laughs than I can remember. More importantly, Alan is one of my very favourite bloggers. I love his style of writing. Check out his blog. I know you won’t be disappointed. Thanks to Alan for guest posting on my blog today.
When Nige asked me would I guest post for him I was honoured. As well as being a top bloke I must admit I have a bit of blog envy.
His blog is everything I wished mine was. Due entirely to the work and dedication he puts into it.
He gave me free reign on the choice of topic. I must admit I struggle when not having a starting point. This is proven by the 20 drafts in my own blog.
Thankfully Little Miss OMG came to my rescue. Here’s the post and thanks to Nige for letting me loose.

Baby Led Weaning (My Thoughts)
Now I’m not one for following the crowd. I’m a firm believer that you know the best thing for your child. Something I think Nigel agrees with.
In recent times Baby Led Weaning has been put forward as the way to go. The idea is simple. As soon as your baby is able to hold food and put it in their mouth, then you allow them to feed themselves.
Now this was something I was doing anyway, without knowing it was called Baby Led Weaning.
I was simply doing it because
1. It seemed the easiest thing to do.
2. How is the child going to learn to eat if you feed them all the time?
There are some instances though where it drives me insane and my stress levels go through the roof.
Yoghurt.
Little Miss OMG insists on eating these herself. Completely unaided! She’s still not realised that if you turn the spoon upside down the yoghurt falls off.
This leads to so much mess it’s unreal. Some days you can walk into our sitting room and it looks like a yoghurt grenade has exploded.
Mashed Potato
The humble spud is still a staple of Irish meals. I swear they’d eat it for every meal if they could. The perfect mashed potato is creamy without lumps.
Yes just the right consistency to get everywhere. Hair, behind ears and on clothes. I’ve even found it in her nappy!!
Baked Beans
Similar to yoghurt, she insists on eating these unaided!! Normally when she is wearing white clothes.
The damn things seem to fall off the spoon in slow motion.
Spaghetti Bolognase
This is one of her favourite meals. It would be wouldn’t it! I’d been quite cute and only served her penne or rigatoni. Which was grand. She would let me put it on the fork and then she’d put food into her mouth. Win win. Then she noticed that boys eating spaghetti and wants that now.
I don’t need to go any further here do I! We’ve all seen a spaghetti covered toddler.
I’m quite happy to watch her eat most foods. Even a chocolate bar as a treat can get a bit messy. Nothing compared to the foods listed above.
So how do you feel on Baby Led Weaning? Do you embrace the mess? Or stand like I do hovering with a pack of baby wipes trying to contain it?

Nice post, Alan. We’ve all been there. We’re going through it with Little Man at the moment. I’ve caught him using yoghurt as wall graffiti.

When I was working as a registered. Child minder I had a four year old who wasn’t allowed to feed himself while at home because his parents said he made too much mess he fed himself when he was in my care and never made any mess at all he is 15 now and I often wonder if they still spoon feed him !
