Brilliant Dad Feature Week 94 

This week our brilliant dad feature is Luke. He lives in Morecambe in the North of England. He recently founded the Blended Parent Network, which is a fantastic new website for parents and bloggers to ask questions and get help. He also makes awesome  family vlogs over on his You Tube channel, The Woodhouse Life which I highly recommmed you check out!

1. Have you always wanted to be a dad? 

I have wanted to be a Dad for as long as I can remember. One of my best friends and I would talk about how our kids were going to be mates and play football in the same team..we would be having these conversations in maths class as 11/12 years old!!

2. How did you feel when your children were born? 

It was a strange feeling when both my boys were born. Travis was a natural labour and I was expecting to be in tears as he was born. This wasn’t the case, I was a nervous mess and was basically in shock. Probably appeared emotionless!! It hit me as I was sat at home, when I had to leave Fiona and Travis in hospital..I couldn’t believe it!!

3. What have been your most rewarding experiances as a dad so far? 

I felt like I would be more prepared for Roman, however everything that could go wrong went wrong and fiona ended having a c-section. The only bit I honestly remember is looking at the clock every few minutes and hearing Katy Perry “eye of the tiger” over the radio in the operating theatre. I had never been so scared. I was once again a shaking mess!!

4. What are some of the funniest moments to have happened to you so far as a dad?

My most rewarding experiences have to be watching both my boys turn into lovely, kind humans always putting themselves before others. Giving my parents hugs and kisses. Knowing that I had a part in the creation of two amazing humans is a big thing for me!!

5. Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?

There have been many funny experiences been a Dad but the best one came this summer. Walking down the prom in Morecambe and a rather large fella was attempting to jog (topless). Travis then shouts (as loud as his lungs can go) “look daddy, that man actually has boobies” lol!

The days I find difficult to deal with are when I’ve been at work, maybe done a 70 hour week and get back home. Both boys on full skittles energy and all I want to do is sleep. Sleep to me is important, something I did lots of before the boys!! They have literally stolen one of my favourite things to do..how dare they!!

6. What are your hopes and dreams for your children? 

I hope that both my boys have never got to worry about where they will find that extra money to buy some milk, not have to tip out the copper jar to buy a loaf of bread ( which we do almost every month) be emotionally well rounded humans and always use their manners!! If they continue to go the way they are going they will achieve this. I try to teach them that with manners and respect for others you can literally do anything!! I will always try and guide them and have one hand out to keep them steady. As long as they always visit me for a drink and bring me a hot water bottle when I’m old and in my favourite place (bed) they will be winners in my eyes!!
