Brilliant Dad Feature Week 11
This week our brilliant dad feature is all about Chris from There’s a Healthier Way. Chris lives in the UK, he’s 35 years old and has two boys. One is two and a half years old, the other is five months old. Thank you for taking part!
1. Have you always wanted to be a dad ?
Yes, definitely. I always knew that one day, when the timing was right, I would step into the dad universe. It happened naturally in the sense of my wife and I were both in the right place in our lives.
2. How did you feel when your children were born ?
The feeling is indescribable. I always question how it’s possible to feel that much love for someone you don’t ‘know’. When our eldest, Grayson, first entered the world I felt like I already new him – we had names before we conceived so he already had an identity, we just needed to see him. Needless to say I blubbed like all men should when their child is born
The first smile, first laugh, first cry, first step…all the firsts are special, even the first tear. But for me it was when my boys first looked into my eyes – in that moment I really felt like I was their dad.
4. What are some of funniest moments to have happened to you as a dad ?
There was a moment when my wife popped out to a yoga class that she obviously greatly deserved to go to – I was overly confident in the classic dad way that I had the bedtime routine covered for the 2 year old whirlwind and the wailing 2 month old baby, only to discover that my ability to multitask and navigate bath time without someone crying was pretty poor. In the end both kids cried pretty dramatically to the point where I just sat there and laughed at myself. Obviously when my wife came home they were both in bed and I was casually drinking a beer 🙂
5. Have there been any situations with your children that you found difficult to cope with?
Yes, many. Recently the toddler has decided to stand on, sit on, throw things at and general hit the baby’s head. Communication is a struggle at the moment since he’s not talking properly so getting our message across to him that he can’t do certain things has been tough. We’re sticking to our guns though and it’ll pay off, eventually.
6. What are your dreams and hopes for your children ?
To live the lives they want and deserve. I had a brilliant upbringing but fell in to the trap of believing everyone had to go to uni and get a corporate job working for someone else. I now run my own business to allow myself time and freedom with my wife and my boys. Everyone deserves to live their life how they want to and not feel pressured into doing something they don’t want to…within reason of course.
Health & happiness is the most important thing.
