Brilliant Dad Feature Week 120
This week the Brilliant dad feature is Luis who blogs at Single Daddy Daycare. He is a 33 year old single co-parent with two children who are six and four years old.
Outside of blogging, he works in healthcare as an account manager for a private medical insurance firm. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, cooking, days out, golf, dining out and of course spending time with his children – which he is very passionate about.
Thank you to Luis for taking part.
1. Have you always wanted to be a dad?
I knew ever since I was younger, I always wanted to be a dad – there was never any doubt.
2. How did you feel when your children were born?
Words really cannot express how I felt when I was born. It’s funny, in life it can take a long time to build up love and a bond with someone, but the feeling of overwhelming love you have when that little bundle of joy is born – only a parent would understand.
3. What have been the most rewarding experiences been so far?
Most rewarding would be the fact I am pretty isolated where I live. I am 250 miles from my parents and where I grew up. Me and the children’s mother divorced when the children were young so for me my most rewarding experience is being fully immersed in the children’s lives and a successful co-parent! I spend a great deal of time with the children and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
4. What are some of funniest moments to have happened to you as a dad?
Funniest moments would depend if the laughter is aimed at me or not!? I’ve had some embarrassing moments when people laugh at me, that includes falling down a muddy bank and my son shouting to my daughter across the park that I’ve got a really muddy bum!! The kids and I are always laughing, it amazes me some of the things they come out with at times and their mannerisms! And that just makes it funnier!
5. Have there been any situations with your children that you found difficult to cope with?
I think the whole divorce things and having to restructure my life completely. As I said earlier, this happened when the children were young and they knew no different, but for me it made me realise what really was important to me and I had to assess accordingly. Adapting to certain things took time – and so did learning to do my daughter’s hair!
6. What are your dreams and hopes for your children?
My dreams and hopes for my children are very simply. To hope they remain happy and healthy. Anything I can do along the way to help them I will of course do my very best.
