That’s It: My Five Year Old Twins 1st Year Of School Is Finished 

A school year goes by very quickly, and the changes in my five year old twin girls has been incredible. Sadly they have grown up so much. Of course nobody can stop time. It flows by in a constant way. Just as they are getting older of course I am as well.

The year started out with an element of tears and plenty of, “I don’t want to go school” comments on an almost daily basis. The reality had hit home that they have to stay there all day very quickly.

The girls settled very quickly for all of that and in a matter of weeks they were getting excited about going to school on a daily basis. This was fantastic because it certainly takes the stress out of taking them to school. By Christmas they were totally settled and knew they had to go school. It wasn’t an option. Sometimes I feel it’s us as parents that feel the pain of letting go of our babies more.

I would say also that they have done so well to settle quickly as their original teacher went off on long term sick and at one point the girls seemed to have a different teacher everyday which must have been unsettling for them, but I guess kids are very resilient and adaptable.

R and M have developed academically very differently, but I think this is more down to their characters and personalities, than abilities.

R has a love of learning and school work that has to be admired. What I think has made her progress quicker than her twin sister is that she enjoys school work and her concentration levels are far higher. On reading her school report on the last day of term it was brilliant and for me the biggest thing was the teacher had said she was a pleasure to teach, always helpful and an asset to the class.

M has developed nicely too, but at a slower level to her sister. Although that’s ok because children develop at their own rate. M definitely gets distracted more easily and if truth be told I would think that has a bearing on her progress being a bit slower than R. M’s report which also was excellent. It was a total pleasure to read, and it is so lovely to read that they are pleasure to teach and always an asset to the class.

The biggest changes I have seen is in the girls confidence which is growing all the time. They have gone from being totally reliant on us, to a very small element of being self sufficient.

It’s now the six weeks holiday and my wife has put a plan in place to continue with some education so they don’t back to school in September forgetting everything they have learned in their first year of school.

I’m looking forward to September and year 1 to watch my five year old twin girls develop and learn lots more.
