Brilliant Dad Feature week 26

This week our dad being featured Is Rod from Canada. He is a stay at home dad and is married with three children; two boys and a girl. Rod blogs at Modern Dad Pages.

1. Have you always wanted to be a dad?

Yes. I always knew that I wanted to be a dad. Growing up I always wondered what kind of dad I would be. Although honestly I never imagined being a stay at home dad. That is the best decision I ever made and I am fortunate to have been able to become self-employed so I can spend all this quality time with them.

2. How did you feel when your children were born?

Although it all seems a blur, all I can really tell you is I fell madly in love with each of them and I was on top of the world. To think that I am trusted in raising such a fragile person and all they want is my love and protection. Amazing isn’t it?

3. What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a Dad?

Watching them grow and become the people they are supposed to become. All three are very different in their own rights. It’s an amazing experience as you watch your babies grow in to teens and you see and hear the decisions they start making on their own. Sometimes honestly you are left thinking “that was a dumb decision”! The important thing to remember though is if they own all their decisions you never have to worry. They will work it out or ask for your advice.

4. What are some of funniest moments to have happened to you as a dad?

I have one that really sticks out in my head and I will never ever forget. Ryley my eldest was about 4 or 5 months old and he hadn’t had a poo in a day. I went to the pharmacy and bought these glycerin suppositories. I arrived back home and got Ryley on his change table, diaper off and started to insert the suppository slowly. While holding it and letting it do its work (suppository that is) I suddenly saw his little tummy push up and whoosh out came the biggest poo I had seen him have to date! I ended up with a poo covered hand, change table and a mural painted on the wall. As the shock of what happened hit me all I could do was start laughing uncontrollably while cleaning up the mess!

5. Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?

I have found that I am a very strong person and there it takes a lot for me to crack completely. I have had many tragedies over the last three years happen in my life and the one constant I have had is always a smile on my face and my best foot forward. I have broken down, but did it when no one was around and was in a better place when they would return. I now know that whatever they throw at me in life I will cope with them and we will get through it. Love and patience is all you need and you can be there completely (well for me anyways).

6. What are your dreams and hopes for your children?

That’s simple! I hope as many of their dreams and aspirations come to life. I just want them to be happy and feel as little pain and anguish as possible. What more could you ask for? HAPPINESS!
