Brilliant dad feature week 47
This weeks Brilliant Dad Feature is Adam Hickmott, he is 26 from Kent. Fiancé to Chelsea and Father to four year old Bobby. He is the founder and editor of Stories Of A Dad, which is a blog providing ‘A dad’s point of view on the world’.
1. Have you always wanted to be a dad?
Yes, I idolise my father so I always thought one day that I would be and hope to be at least half as good as he is. Also I always wanted to keep the family name going.
2. How did you feel when your children were born?
Bobby, my son was born under very dramatic circumstances. He was 9 and a half weeks early and weighed only 2lbs 5oz. It was scary as we came so close to losing him and my partner Chelsea, due to a rare condition. At the same time I was over joyed to become a dad, I felt compelled to step up and be a man.
3. What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a Dad?
People complimenting you on your child, being told you have a wonderful little boy. Nothing beats that. Especially when it comes from people who don’t necessarily know us as a family, like teachers, or other parents at playgrounds etc. Knowing we didn’t do a bad job.
4. What are some of funniest moments to have happened to you as a dad?
We don’t stop laughing, Bobby seems to draw the funny side out of every situation as he says a lot of funny things to random people. Like when he gets off the bus and says “Thank you Driver” everyone looks at us in hysterics because he little people think he should know these things. Also walking down the road to the car after school pick up, having Bobby shout to his friend on the opposite side of the road that he doesn’t wet the bed anymore. In all honesty there are so many things it’s hard to pick.
5. Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?
No, the only time I have struggled is during illness, either his or mine. Late nights early mornings due to coughing or blocked noses etc. Other than that it’s a breeze.
6. What are your dreams and hopes for your children?
I hope for big things, I have always been big into sports. So If he could excel in his chosen sports what ever they may be that’d be great. I’d like him to have a great education and also travel to places never explored before, and really learn to cherish the world for what it is. Preferably with me tagging along on the trek.
