1. Have you always wanted to be a dad?
I realised that I wanted children when I was around 25 years old. Although I knew I didn’t want them immediately, I knew that I wanted to be a Dad in the near future. I guess I felt like I wanted to pass on some sort of legacy to a new generation.
2. How did you feel when your children were born?
I was excited, but also nervous. It was a massive amount of responsibility and I realised that me and my wife had to provide total care to this little being. I am still nervous now at times, am I doing the right thing? Is there a better way? etc… With my second child I was a lot less nervous and felt like I could enjoy the birth and the time after a bit more. I also realised that those first few months were precious as they develop so quickly.
3. What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a Dad?
My most rewarding experience with my eldest son is that we have read with him pretty much since birth and now he is starting to read on his own and he loves books. That makes me very proud and I can see how important it is to spend time with your children and help them develop.
4. What are some of funniest moments to have happened to you as a dad?
When I look back at all the times I’ve been weed on, been sick on and had poo on me, I do laugh as I never thought in a million years that would happen to me. My eldest also makes me laugh with some of things he says like ‘you have got a big round belly Daddy.’
5. Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?
I think at times it is difficult to be a master of your emotions. When potty training and my son had an accident after not having one for a while and after just asking him if needed the toilet; it was difficult to keep positive and not get frustrated.
6. What are your dreams and hopes for your children?
I dream that when they get older they will have the freedom to be and do what they want and have as many opportunities as I can provide for them. I hope they will realise that money does not make them happy but being content in what they do will make them happy.
