Making sure my tools and equipment are safe.
My job as a painter, decorator, and handyman means that I have a lot of equipment and tools. One of the most important pieces of equipment that I own are my ladders I have about six sets, some may say that’s slightly obsessive, but they genuinely all have their uses! As homes come in all different sizes and shapes having the right set of ladders for a particular job is vital.
The main reason for this comes down to safety. I wouldn’t, for example, turn up at a job, with a pair of ladders that were too short. I’d have to stretch to reach the area I was working on, or even worse balance in a dangerous position which would most likely end in an accident.
The second reason is that they also help me to complete the job I’m working on efficiently and quickly. I also have a scaffolding tower for those jobs that cannot be done safely off a ladder. I think it’s fair to say I’m prepared for all eventualities!
Moving on, I also use a lot of paintbrushes. Being a professional painter and decorator means that I only use the best ones available and I always have a stock of paint at all times.
Another valuable piece of equipment that I own is my wallpaper steamer which is probably worth around £100.
I didn’t go out and pay a lot of money to purchase all this equipment all in one go. It’s actually taken me many years to buy all these tools. If I had to go out and buy it in one go now, it would probably be impossible, and also very expensive!
Of course there are other ways which you can help to keep your equipment safe such as CCTV, a security light etc, but I find the shutter doors more secure.
