It's a blogging world

Our home is without question a blogging world. 

I have to admit we rarely argue over blogging and it has most definitely had its benefits. 

I remember my wife saying to me about five years ago that she was going to start a blog. My reply was great, so what is that then with a very confused look on my face! I had absolutely no idea what blogging was. 

My wife explained it to me and the fact that it would document our four year old twins lives, as well as our lives as a family.

I have to admit initially it made me feel very uncomfortable, but night after night I would watch my wife slave over a laptop, burning a hole in the keyboard, and If I’m honest I thought well that seems an incredible amount of work for nothing!

Then gradually after a year or so her blog started to earn some money and we would recieve items, toys etc, for the girls to review and of course I thought this is not so bad after all. Maybe this blogging is something after all. I thought as a lot of people do, freebies! How wrong was I!

Fast forward a few years and I broke my wrist in a work accident which stopped me working for five weeks, and this then coincided with the birth of my blog!

Of course I wondered why I was starting a blog, and I most probably still do to this day. 

Why is it that we share so much of our private thoughts and at times bare our souls and re-live painful memories from our past and then write it down and share details of our everyday lives with our children and families with strangers? Maybe that’s the reason we do it because most of the people reading it we dont know and it’s easier for us to share. 

Do we share our thoughts because we are looking for attention, or maybe its approval? Or as the great Frank Zappa said our 15 minutes of fame. The truth is, for me I don’t know. Do we do it to be famous or make lots of money? I’m fairly confident that’s never going to happen for me, but I’m sure that could be on some peoples agenda and of course if that’s what they want it’s absolutely fine. 

I write across a wide spectrum of topics and one of those topics has been my childhood, which although didn’t entirely screw me up it left its mark, and I find that it is a form of therapy to write it down, to help find closure on certain episodes of my life. 

My blog has been going just under two years and where my blog is today I could say I am lucky. Well actually luck doesn’t come into it. I have worked so very hard to write good, engaging content across a broad spectrum of subjects. I have promoted and spent many hours improving as much as I can about my blog. I have met online and in person some wonderful people. That has definitely helped me in so many ways.  

We have had so many fantastic opportunities especially for our four year old twins, fantastic experiences and this would never have happened without blogging.

One of biggest questions I have, and I may have to wait a few years for the answer to this, I would love to get into my four year twin girls minds and see how they perceive the world of blogging parents. It could well be day trips, new toys and of course when they have new toys do they wonder why mummy and daddy are taking photos while they play?

Or have they become conditioned to this way of life? It must be at times a strangeexperience for them. As the years pass I will be fascinated to learn of their memories of this time in their lives, and of course if either or both take up blogging when they are older.

Recently I did a review for a hoover and also vlogged it, and my twins were sat on the sofa watching my wife film me and I caught them in the corner of my eye looking at me with almost disbelief and actually quite stunned at their daddy’s antics!

I have discovered in almost two years that it takes a serious effort to even make your blog moderately successful, and once you have reached one level it’s time to work harder again to push it to the next level. 

There is no easy way to a successful blog.
