Brilliant dad feature week 77
This week our Brilliant Dad Feature is Glenn. He lives in Aberdeenshire in Scotland, and is married to Mrs D. They have a 20 month old daughter called Sophia, and they have another one on the way or player 2 as Glenn has taken to referring to the soon to be new arrival!
They don’t know what they are having, but like the idea of a surprise. They have a 12 year old cocker spaniel called Tj or as his daughter Sophia calls him Dodo. They both work full time so the weekends are a precious commodity to spend time as a family. He is new to the blogging world and has only been at it a few months, but is thoroughly enjoying his journey and gaining more experience and sharing war stories with the other dads out there……and mums of course. 1. Have you always wanted to be a dad?
Difficult one to answer, yes and no I guess. Growing up I never really gave it much thought and I guess I just assumed a wife and kids would follow at some point. As I got older and Mrs D became more career focused the reality was that kids maybe weren’t going to happen, but Sophia popped along and here we are waiting for player 2 to enter the game. Latterly I have become more and more in love with the idea of having a big family, but age and finance aren’t on my side.
2. How did you feel when your children were born?
Again a tough one, there was a real mixed bag of emotions when Sophia was born as the birth wasn’t great and Mrs D had a pretty torrid time. So there was a lot of worry, but a lot of happiness, tears, joy, more tears and general excitement.
I’m hoping that when player 2 is born the birth is straightforward and we can enjoy the day like you’re meant to!!
3. What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a Dad?
I could go with the generic ones but for me it is the love and care Sophia has for everyone, whether its Mummy or Gran or Dodo she always want to give hugs, kisses and share food with you. I love the fact she is so kind hearted and will always ensure that daddy and mummy have a kiss before bed time or when she’s leaving nursery she’ll say bye to everyone and wave. It’s so nice to see at 20 months old that she’s thinking of others and I can only hope for more of the same in future. If she’s happy then I’m delighted!!!
4. What are some of funniest moments to have happened to you as a dad?
That’s a great question, for me it’s right now as Sophia is learning words, but in general still speaking gobbledygook but its as clear as day to her. Just last night she came out with the longest sentence I’ve ever heard and there was much finger pointing, nodding and rolling of the eyes, once she was done she looked at Mummy and Daddy as if we should’ve understood everything she just said and gave us a satisfactory tilt of the head. Mrs D and I looked at each other and just burst out laughing and Sophia joined in, I think the mannerisms and the sentences and the expectation that you should understand is awesome.
5. Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?
No not really, it’s just a baby being a baby and when there is a moment you deal with it and move on. There are bound to be these moments as your kids grow and develop, these things are new for them as well as you so you need to just get through them which can be easier said than done. Maybe with Sophia being only 20 months I’ve got more tricky situations to deal with in the future like the famous terrible two’s but I will try to embrace them rather than fight them.
6. What are your dreams and hopes for your children?
For them to go after their dreams and achieve everything they want out of life. May sound a little cheesy but I think its what we all want isn’t it? You wan them to be happy and be the best they can be.
