Brilliant Dad Feature Week 95 

This week the Brilliant Dad Feature is all about the awesome dad blogger Rich. His blog is called One Hull Of A Dad. Rich is from Hull in the UK where he lives with his wife, Kerry, and their two children. He works for a large craft retailer as a store manager.

He has been blogging since July 2016 and says he thoroughly enjoys writing and interacting with different people on social media.

1. Have you always wanted to be a dad? 

Yes, I have always wanted to be a dad. My wife and I always wanted two children, 1 boy and 1 girl. Luckily we got what we wanted!

2. How did you feel when your children were born? 

We didn’t choose to find out whether we were having a boy or a girl both times. I think this made the feeling even more special when the kids were born. With my first born Joseph I felt immediate love for him, I couldn’t believe how having a child could make you feel so amazing. There is no other feeling like it. I also felt scared, this was way out of my comfort zone. I had never been around babies at all and I felt as though I wouldn’t be a good enough dad because I wouldn’t know what to do. This feeling soon went! When Alice was born I wasn’t scared, we’d already had Joseph so I was more excited to meet her (or him at the time as we didn’t know).

3. What have been your most rewarding experiances as a dad so far? 

My most rewarding experiences so far as a dad have to be seeing Joseph succeed at school. We always said from a young age that he seemed to be very clever and he is doing really well at school. We have the added bonus that he actually loves going to school, although that may change in a few years.

4. What are some of the funniest moments to have happened to you as a dad so far?

Funniest moments as a dad have to be just some of the things they come out with. In this case, just Joseph as Alice isn’t old enough to talk yet. One funny thing he said that had me and Kerry in fits of laughter was when Kerry was making a mummy costume for him for dress up day at school. Kerry said “I’ll have to dip these bed sheets in tea to get them the right colour” Joseph without hesitation replied “were going to need a big cup then”.

5. Have there been any moments with your children that you have found difficult to cope with? 

The only things I find difficult to deal as a parent as when you’ve been at work all day or you have a day off to spend with your family and then the kids play up massively. It almost feels as though they do it on purpose. It’s hard when your excited to see them and want to enjoy some quality time with them yet all they want to do is be naughty.

6. What are hopes and dreams for your children? 

My dreams and hopes for my children are simple, I hope they grow up to be happy, healthy and have their own loving families. I hope they are able to do everything they want in life. They should know that they have two loving parents who will do anything for them and love them more than they ever thought possible.
