Chester A Perfect Place For A Day Out Or Some Retail Therapy
I’m lucky enough to have family living very close to Chester which means that over the years I have had many opportunities to wander around one of the most beautiful and interesting towns in Cheshire. If you are ever in the region of Cheshire, Chester is a town that you must visit. The town dates back to Roman times and has a vast array of historical sites that I would recommend visiting.
Cheshire is a vibrant area, plus it’s growing and becoming a very popular place to live. Many house builders such as Laurus Homes Cheshire have developments that have you in mind. They build homes to the highest specifications in a very desirable part of the north of England.
If you are visiting Chester here are my top four attractions that I think you should not miss out seeing.
1. Chester Rows
There is nothing better than some retail therapy and Chester Rows is perfect to get your shopping fix. The Chester rows are walkways that date back to the 14th century. They were originally houses, but have since been changed into shops. There is something for everyone and many hours can be spent searching the vast array of interesting and quaint shops, as well as the more well known high street names.
2. Chester Cathedral
Chester Cathedral dates back to AD98 and has been a Benedictine monastery, as well as part of the old Norman church, which still survives. It is set in beautiful grounds and is steeped in history. A must visit for anybody that has an interest in cathedrals.
3. Chester Roman Amphitheater
Chester Roman amphitheater is the largest such attraction of its kind in Britain. It’s being constantly excavated, and as recently as 2005 they found two amphitheater’s, one of which was similar to the amphitheater in Pompeii. It’s a very awesome feeling to stand where 2,000 years ago Romans would have stood enjoying the entertainment or where military training took place for the 20th legion.
4. Chester Zoo
A short drive from Chester in Upton is Chester Zoo. Chester Zoo is one of the largest zoos in the UK.
There really is plenty to see and do with over 11,000 animals and 400 species. It also has prize winning landscaped gardens to wander around or have a picnic in on a hot summers day.
It also has animal attractions such as chimpanzee Island, a penguin pool and the largest tropical house in Europe. It is something that should be on your do to list when you visit Cheshire.
These are some of my favourite places to visit whilst in Chester. I think a few days would be needed or possibly longer to really appreciate this beautiful part of the UK.
